Finals are on sunday with last matches over by 3 Pm. ( aprx. ) so you can head to Worlds ! Don't forget the U.S. Open is prize money events, too ! BUT, this tournament is part of The Bite, A Taste Festival of Portland, and we are part of the "entertainment" all weekend for up to 200,000 people, with festival going until 8-9 pm. SO, we are looking for 4 teams minimum that are willing to play exhibition matches AFTER finals. The point is that this is a great festival for the u.s. open to be a part of, and we do not want to leave the festival promoter & prospective sponsors re-considering our involvement next year, when World's is not a time conflict for many. (2) If you do not meet the above deadline for both (registration and payment), your registration is not guaranteed, and you may be charged a late fee of $10 US even if you pre-registered online. (Pre-registration is not considered final until you pay, else there's no way to know if you're really coming). (3) On-site registration comes with a $10 extra fee and you are not guaranteed of getting a shirt, nor of certain events being offered. (Without enough paid pre-registrations in a given event, that event may be cancelled before the week begins.) (4) You can finalize your registration and reserve your spot in the events by going to http://www.footbag.org/registration/register?tid=941418343 and paying by credit card. (5) You can change your registration even after paying, and any difference will be reconciled at check-in on the first day of the event. There is no penalty for changes as long as you pay the base entry fee before the deadline (August 7). (6) You don't have to have a partner until Monday at close of check-in. There will be partner-wanted postings at the check-in location throughout the check-in period, so you can try to find a last-minute partner during that time. There is no penalty for last-minute partner changes as long as both players pre-paid their base entry fee. If you can't find a partner by the end of check-in, you will be refunded the entry fee for that event, and/or your entire entry fee if that is your only event. (7) Check-in is the only formal time when you can sign the waiver for competition and pick up your player's pack. Unless you make alternative arrangements, please plan to either check in or have a friend check in for you on Monday. (8) Freestylers who are not competing in any other events may check in at the freestyle players' meeting (judging clinic) on Wednesday night. (9) Please re-read my entire post on the announcement archives giving you detailed information on Worlds, though some of the information has since been updated/corrected, so please also re-read the website at http://www.footbag.org/worlds/ which has since been updated with the latest schedule, sites, and other information. Time is swiftly going by and we are approaching the 2000 World Footbag Championships here in Vancouver, BC, Canada. This year's event is shaping up to be one of the best, if not THE best ever and we're looking forward to being your host. We have some excellent sites lined up and some great after play activities as well. As you all know, the pre-registration deadline was August 7. If you missed it, that's ok, you can still register in person when you get here. However, be prepared to pay a late fee of $10 US. Remember, you have to register on Monday. But if you've already registered, you can check in on Wednesday night at the players' meeting and judging clinic. For those of you who do not know me, my name is Chard Cook and I'll be directing this year's Freestyle event. There will be three rounds of competition with the first and second round taking place in the Performance Hall at the Roundhouse Community Centre beginning on Thursday, August 17th. On the corner of Davie & Pacific, it's situated right in the heart of Yaletown and near the edge of False Creek where you'll have some fantastic scenery and places to eat and drink. There will be lockers available to store your personal stuff, but not necessarily locks to secure them. You may want to bring your own lock for this. All competitors will also have access to the shower facilities, so bring your soap and towels too. The Finals venue is located right in the KFA's backyard at the Kitsilano Community Centre. We have secured this venue at no cost in exchange for doing demos at their annual community event called "Picnic in the Park". It takes place this Saturday, August 12 between 11:00am-4:00pm at Connaught Park right beside the Community Centre at 12th Avenue & Larch Street. There will be net courts set up and as many shred circles as possible. If you are arriving before Saturday or early Saturday morning, then you are welcome to join in on the fun. The more the merrier. The Judging Clinic is scheduled for 6:00-8:00 pm on Wednesday, August 16 at Nevermind on the corner of 4th Avenue & Blenheim. Attendence is mandatory for all freestyle competitors and will be followed by food & drink for all Worlds players. The full schedule will be in the Worlds program and you will find out more at the Opening Ceremonies. I just wanted to give you a few details before your travels and help prepare you for all the fun. So, put on your shoes, tighten the laces, and bust some shred. See you next week in BEAUTIFUL Vancouver at the 2000 World Footbag Championships. Always kickin', Chard Cook Freestyle Director 2000 Worlds Organizing Committee Hosted by the Kitsilano Footbag Association P.S. I'm happy to announce that as of yesterday evening, both sites are back up. The sites were down for a total of 4 days, which is the worst outage I've ever seen of this nature. The details are not particularly interesting, but suffice it to say that if I weren't at Worlds in a foreign country, this might have been resolved much quicker. As it was, I had to rely on the help of *many* of my friends back home in California, who I worked with almost non-stop for four days (day and night) via e-mail and cellphone. Many thanks go out to those great behind-the-scenes friends of the sport. Thanks to all for bearing with me and for those of you who sent me notifications of the problem (and especially those who gave me details that helped diagnose the problem). I may not answer everyone individually just because of the volume of e-mails I got telling me the site was down. :-) Good to know it's so popular. My apologies to WFA and the larger community for these problems. In reality, the solution we have in place is only temporary, so cross your fingers that a better solution will be easy for me to implement. Of course, as usual, this type of problem always has to happen when I'm out of the country. By the way, the Worlds has been *great* so far. The weather was perfect until today, but it's not *that* bad and should be sunny again for the rest of the weekend. The Vancouver folks are doing a great job! If you want, just call 717-564-1831 (fax or phone) with any questions. Just wanted to let you know the first day will be at Sunshine Park which is not what the originally printed online and paper info stated. We were to be on City Island all three days this year, but the rec guy just called and said we had to use Sunshine Park the first day. We are having some cool/cold nights lately. Anyone considering camping should check the weather. It feels like fall is here already in August. Just a reminder that the Friday registration is at the Funtastik store at the Point Mall in Harrisburg. The store hours are 11 AM - 8 PM. The phone # is 717-564-8620. I'll will be there from 4 - 8 PM for registration and to hand out players packets. We need to know if any net players are arriving later and have not registered so as to place you in the proper pool. Service poachers can register at the beginning of the event. Stylers, golfers, and skill contestants can register at Sunshine Park Saturday morning until noon. Stylers, Iron Man & Freestyle Shred contestants can register most anytime Sunday up to the first call for the event. Remember it is getting darker earlier so we do ask you are warmed up and ready to play your matches when nets become available. See you soon. Brenda
