It's about time I announced this, but I wanted to wait until we had at least a minimal english homepage version ready. Which is now the case, so here I go: The Swiss Footbag Association, Planet Footbag Z¸rich and the Footbag Conspiracy proudly present the first Swiss Footbag Championships, FootJam 2001, 26th and 27th of May. (See http://www.footjam.ch ) Competition starts Saturday 26th of May at the B”ckeranlage in Z¸rich. We will have the complete net competition on this day (mixed open singles and doubles) and there will be music, a shred arena and a chillout party at night with the possibility of watching footbag videos on a video beamer at night. Also we will have kids from schools around Z¸rich participating in footbag workshops the whole day, so be prepared to share some of your knowledge with the kids! Sunday we will host the open freestyle (men/women) competition at the Dynamo in Z¸rich (www.dynamo.ch), a small concert place with a capacity of about 400 people which we hope to fill for final time around 18.00. Apart from the freestyle competition we will have some showcases to lighten the mood, namely Breakdance, YoYo, Capoera and a Ragga performance. To make things easier for the players, we will have a group of qualified Judges (Justin Sexton, Mika Koistinen, Jan Struz, Crazy and Jan Zimmermann) judging the whole competition. COMPETITION IS OPEN! Meaning all non Swiss competitors are welcome to participate. However we will adopt a mode of competition that allows us to determine the winner of the tournament as well as the best Swiss player in a fair way (if you absolutely need specifics on this before the actual tournament, contact me). We are able to provide housing, drinks and food at very reasonable prices to all competitors (just remember that "very reasonable" in Swiss terms might not be the same as in your country, Switzerland is expensive...) and there will only be a minimal registration fee (approx. 10,- Sfr.). OK, 'nuff said, if you want the full details, check out the official FootJam homepage at www.footjam.ch. For non German speakers there is a minimal English version available, but you might like to klick through the full German version as well. Registration is now also officially opened and possible via the homepage (in English and German) and we would like to ask all players planning to come to register ASAP! http://www.footjam.ch Jan Zimmermann From owner-announce@list.footbag.org Thu May 3 23:59:33 2001 Received: (from majordom@localhost) by list.footbag.org (8.9.3/8.9.3) id XAA03652 for announce-outgoing; Thu, 3 May 2001 23:59:33 -0700 X-Authentication-Warning: list.footbag.org: majordom set sender to owner-announce@footbag.org using -f Received: from femail2 (femail2.sdc1.sfba.home.com [24.0.95.82]) by market.llic.net (8.9.3/8.9.3) with ESMTP id WAA12695 for ; Thu, 3 May 2001 22:21:42 -0700 User-Agent: Microsoft-Outlook-Express-Macintosh-Edition/5.02.2022 Date: Thu, 03 May 2001 23:46:24 -0700 Subject: [announce] 2001 World Championships -- lodging reminder From: Lisa McDaniel To: announce@footbag.org Message-ID: In-Reply-To: Mime-version: 1.0 Content-type: text/plain; charset="US-ASCII" Content-transfer-encoding: 7bit Sender: owner-announce@footbag.org Hello again from Worlds central! The 2001 World Footbag Championships are coming up soon (August 6-12). We have some really fun events planned and we're looking forward to having you all here. (Check for updates online at http://www.footbag.org/worlds2001) This is a gentle reminder for those of you who have not booked your hotel room yet, please do so ASAP. Only a few rooms have been booked and time is getting short. You may feel like you have time, but here is why you do not: Bay Area tourist season peaks in August. *ALL* area hotels will be fully occupied. We have only held a small number of rooms. Once those rooms are booked, we can block off more, *IF* they are available. If all of you wait until the last minute to book some, or even many, of you will not get rooms. So please book now. Here is all the info again in case you missed it: ---------- From: Lisa McDaniel Date: Wed, 28 Mar 2001 18:34:11 -0800 To: announce@footbag.org Subject: [announce] 2001 Worlds - Host Hotel Information Hello Worlds 2001 competitors, family, friends, and fans, The 2001 Worlds Committee has found great accommodations for this year's World Footbag Championships in the San Francisco Bay Area! We're proud to announce that the host hotel this year will be the Berkeley Marina Radisson, in Berkeley, California. Located at the Berkeley Marina, the hotel will give us easy access to all competition sites, as well as downtown Berkeley and San Francisco. It's right on the water with a great view of the Bay Bridge and San Francisco's famous city lights. We'll be right next to the Eastshore Regional park and beachside bike trails. The Radisson is a big, comfortable hotel with lots of amenities, indoor pools and hot tubs, conference rooms for our meetings, and patio areas so we can all watch the freestyle shred from the heated pool! Here are the particulars: The Radisson Hotel Berkeley Marina 200 Marina Blvd. Berkeley, CA 94710 Reservations: US/Canada: 1-800-243-0625 US and Canada International: +1 (510) 548-7920 Fax: (510) 548-7944 Quad occupancy rooms (for four people) with 2 queen beds is $139.00 US per night, plus hotel tax at 12%. Double occupancy rooms with one king bed are available at the same rate. Quad rooms are a nice size and you may exceed 4 persons, but please use good judgment and be discreet about it. If you need a roll-away, the charge is $10 per night. There are also "executive kings", with a king bed and a sofa bed in a 25% larger room for $159.00 per night. You may also request a refrigerator for additional $5.00 per night. Microwaves are also available for a comparable charge as yet undetermined. Please use the 800 number and the group keyword *FOOTBAG* to book your room as soon as possible. You will need to have a major credit card to secure your reservation, or you may send a check for one night's stay as deposit. Be sure to book into the *FOOTBAG* group and make sure you get the *FOOTBAG* rate of $139.00. Please be prepared to give the following information when you call. 1) Arrival and departure dates, estimated time of check-in. 2) Roommates' names, if you need extra keys or will arrive separately. 3) Choice of king bed or two queens, smoking or non smoking room. 4) Major credit card number and expiration, or other form of deposit. 5) Don't forget to say *FOOTBAG*. 6) Request fridge and/or microwave. It is *VERY IMPORTANT* that you book your room ASAP, and here's why. We were only able to block 30 rooms at this time. We will be able to get more rooms once those are gone, but only *IF* there are rooms still available. August is the height of the tourist season in the Bay Area, and we expect all hotels to be booked out, including ours. As summer approaches rooms will be scarce and rates will go up. So PLEASE BOOK NOW so that we can block off more rooms if necessary to accommodate everyone. If you reserve using a credit card, you are not risking much by reserving now because if something unforseeable happens, or if you decide to share in the cost of someone else's room, you can cancel or change your reservation again later. Also, if you have family or friends who will be attending, please be sure that they book into the *FOOTBAG* group or they will pay a much higher rate. BAFL has contracted with the Radisson to fill a quota of rooms. We are counting on you to be sure that we get credit for all *FOOTBAG* related bookings. Otherwise, we are left holding the proverbial bag. Information regarding ground transportation to the hotel from Bay Area airports as well as rental car information will be posted soon. The Radisson has an hourly shuttle to a nearby BART (train) station, which gives you fairly convenient access the whole Bay Area. This will enable you to get by without a rental car if you wish. Detailed information will follow shortly. Lastly, we know that a few of you are travelling on an extremely limited budget. The host hotel allows multiple roommates, providing a way to cut down the cost of housing. So buddy up. Players travelling from other continents, like Europe, will have to spend much more on airfare than the rest of us. In order to encourage overseas players to attend, we are offering to host some of those overseas travelers who need assistance with housing, but space is limited to only the most needy. For more information e-mail me directly, bigmac@footbag.org, and I will try to set you up on a space available basis. Let's go to Worlds!!! Lisa McDaniel, the 2001 Worlds Committee, and BAFL P.S. Please don't delay in making your hotel reservations and, did we mention, say *FOOTBAG*? The 2001 Southern Regional Footbag Championships are going to be held this coming weekend (May 18-20) in Richardson, TX. For those of you who have been to our past events, you know the deal... We are part of the Wildflower! Arts and Music Festival which draws about 50,000 people over the course of the weekend. Net? Oh yeah... We will be playing on professionally manicured lawns that are guaranteed to stay green and alive throughout the event. No dirt or mud here. Freestyle? I'm glad you asked. We've got a choice of several spots - near one of the many stages with live music, around a crowd, under shade, with wind blocks, whatever. The site is great for freestyle. Golf? Of course. A nearby park is perfect - trees, hills, water... it has it all. Four square? Hehe. I love this game. I've got the chalk and I'm ready to play. Online registration and the tournament information is on http://www.footbag.org/calendar/show/988434364 Details - maps, host hotels, schedules, etc. can all be found on the web at http://dallasfootbag.org/southern2001.html It will be fun. You should come. -Derric Dallas Footbag Club From owner-announce@list.footbag.org Tue May 15 23:28:03 2001 Received: (from majordom@localhost) by list.footbag.org (8.9.3/8.9.3) id XAA03314 for announce-outgoing; Tue, 15 May 2001 23:28:03 -0700 X-Authentication-Warning: list.footbag.org: majordom set sender to owner-announce@footbag.org using -f Received: from web11603.mail.yahoo.com (web11603.mail.yahoo.com [216.136.172.55]) by market.llic.net (8.9.3/8.9.3) with SMTP id JAA20180 for ; Tue, 15 May 2001 09:53:09 -0700 Message-ID: <20010515165304.3132.qmail@web11603.mail.yahoo.com> Received: from [205.188.199.212] by web11603.mail.yahoo.com; Tue, 15 May 2001 09:53:04 PDT Date: Tue, 15 May 2001 09:53:04 -0700 (PDT) From: Eli Piltz Subject: [announce] Follow-Up: Planet X -- Footbag on TV To: announce@footbag.org In-Reply-To: <20010417221122.72024.qmail@web11602.mail.yahoo.com> MIME-Version: 1.0 Content-Type: text/plain; charset=us-ascii Sender: owner-announce@footbag.org Footbag users and abusers, For those of you who weren't able to catch the "Planet X" TV show a couple of weeks ago, containing a segment on freestyle footbag, I have put highlights from the segment on my website. This is the last minute info on next weekend's Swiss Footbag Championships: If you're coming earlier than Saturday, please write me an e-mail (ASAP) of when exactly your coming. We have accommodations starting Wednesday and we can arrange to pick you up. If you don't manage to mail me, give me a call at 076-581 17 14 (from Switzerland). On Saturday, registration starts 10.00, Single net competition starts 12.00 SHARP! If you haven't registered by 11.30 you cannot compete in singles net. If you're planning to compete in doubles net you have to register by 14.00 latest. If you're coming on Saturday, please come to the B”ckeranlage directly and do not go to the sleeping place (Zivilschutzanlage) because it will be closed till late in the evening. You can lock all your stuff away at the B”ckeranlage. To remind you, the B”ckeranlage is at the Tramstation Hohlstrasse (Tram Nr. 8, sorry its written wrong on the map on the Homepage). If the weather is bad, the net competition will be at the gym next to the b”ckeranlage, you'll find signs showing you the way. If you're only coming for the freestyle competition on Sunday, be at the Dynamo at 12.00 to register. Competition will start at 14.00. In any event, please be sure to bring MONEY. You have to pay for accommodations and registration at the registration. If you don't have the money you won't be able to register (we will make no exceptions from this rule). So if you have to exchange money be sure to do so before you arrive at the site. How much money do you need? Accomodations are 15,-Sfr. a night. Registration fees are 10,-Sfr. if you compete in Net or Freestyle, 15,- Sfr. if you compete in both. At registration you get the chance to buy a tournament T-Shirt for 25,-Sfr., after registration it will be 35,-Sfr. Once you've registered you will get a players package including rules and regulations, an energy drink and a player pass. The player pass can be used to: -Buy Water (1.5L for 1,-Sfr.) and Ice Tea (0.5 L for 1,-Sfr.) at the "Red Bull Bar" on Saturday and at the Bar on Sunday. -Buy vouchers for Cold Salad Plate with CousCous, Pasta, etc. (5,-Sfr.), Meat (Chicken or Sausage for 5,-Sfr.) and Beer (2,-Sfr.) at the "Red Bull Bar" on Saturday. The Vouchers can be used to obtain the food and drinks at the restaurante/grill on the B”ckeranlage. -Buy Vouchers for a Spaghetti Meal at the Dynamo Restaurant on Sunday (10,-Sfr.) We ask you to not misuse these players passes and hand them on to anyone who is not a player. We have only a limited amount of vouchers and drinks and if non players use them up it might happen that there won't be enough for all the players. If you have non players/spectators making the trip with you, have them register too and obtain a players pass. This way we can control how many people there are using the vouchers and you will support the organization (in any case, normal prices are so that you save a lot of money even if you register without playing, just to obtain the pass.) If you're planning to stay at the Zivilschutzanlage, please bring a sleeping bag! See you next weekend! Jan Zimmermann FootJam Crew Questions? You, your friends, your cousins and your friends' cousins! We will be hosting a dance party, complete with a DJ, and freestyle jam, with all proceeds going to fund this year's World Championships (August 6-12 in Berkeley, Albany, and San Francisco, California). The party will be at Bad Abbot's Bar in San Francisco on Sat., June 2nd, starting at 8:30 p.m. Bad Abbot's is located at the corner of Beach and Columbus in the North Beach district of San Francisco. This is a roomy nightclub with a great sound system, dance floor, pool tables, foosball, and a well lighted area for the freestyle jam. We've hired a great DJ to guarantee a good time, and, best of all, the $10.00 cover charge will benefit a great cause! A special note to Bay Area net and freestyle players: this is a great opportunity for you to support the Worlds effort and have fun doing it. We are expecting a huge turnout for this and are counting on you to bring your family, friends and co-workers to meet and party with your footbag circle. We can't put this together without *everyone* in the bay area footbag scene attending and bringing their friends. Remember, your friends will get the best ever side-show of footbag freestyle, as the jam will go until the last kicker falls over. After all, they both require completely differing site requirements, so why be good to one group and not the other? Never again. Each event is listed separately on the footbag.org event listing at http://www.footbag.org/events/ -- and the information for each tournament is in this e-mail below, separated into two parts: Part I is the net competition (June 9-10 in Mt. Net requires a big open field of green grass, where the ideal freestyle site is concrete or indoor wood flooring, with good man-made lighting and control over "outdoor" factors like wind and temperature. We have a great big field of green grass for the net players, and even a nice band-shell for the freestylers to jam in off to the side (until the tuba players take over on Sunday at 3:00). We will also be jamming freestyle unofficially at Blues Fest downtown on Thursday and Friday evenings. Out-of-towners are welcome to stay at our house, or other free host homes. Events: Singles Freestyle Freestyle Shred Divisions: Novice, Intermediate, Pro and Women, Consecutives Contest (for novice and spectators) The site is within 500 feet of the entrance to two new roller coasters. Entry fee includes entry to park for first day. Players will be responsible for purchasing a $5 "twicket" for admission on Sunday prior to their leaving the park on Saturday. The "Southwest Amphitheatre" is a 3500 seat amphitheater with a 40' x 40' stage front and center to the audience and judges. The facility is an open air (not enclosed structure) venue. We have a secured area backstage for players to store their personal belongings. For more info about the park, check out: http://www.sixflags.com/greatamerica/ The schedule is tweaked to provide the optimum amount of time riding the theme parks many roller coasters and attractions. Our events will be happening during the peak attendance of the park (when the lines will be longest at the rides) so we can get optimum crowds for our final rounds. More info will be available soon as to the specifics of the schedule. We will be doing demos and shredding outside the amphitheater all day both days, it is a great place to create a spectacle.
