We had the best weather ever and introduced a new skill contest, Super Man. There were 50 competitors and lots of kickers who came for fun. Mr. Kenny Shults made an appearance on Sunday. Besides being a celebrity judge for freestyle, Kenny shredded the day away. Many witnesses were treated to his hitting a Big Applesauce. There were plenty of freestyle circles all weekend. Jason Langis and Chris Seibert battled long and hard in the semi-final net match with Chris moving on to the final round. Pro net doubles went to three games with Yves Archambault and Chris Seibert claiming this year's title. Service poaching had some unique approaches involving a trashcan, a toy gun and a camera. When the dust settled, Jamie Lepley had the highest score (367) from the all-female celebrity judges. Iron Man had its usual dog eat dog moves as Greg Nelson head butted Peter Irish's footbag to take the win. Freestyle Shred (30 sec.) had an awesome final round with Eric Wulff claiming the title with 101 adds, 3.156 ratio, 20 unique with a total of 164.12. Super Man involved scoring points against gladiator net players, Yves Archambault and James Harley. They really enjoyed being a major pain in the butt obstacle in everyone's attempt at the Superman title. Superman consisted of 40 adds, 50 consecutives, score a point from the serve, side out and score a point against two of the highest ranked net players available (playing against each separately), and 3 various golf shots that add seconds equivalent to the distance missed. If any of the 3 golf shots are made, it cancels out the distance from the longest miss. Carol Wedemeyer wowed the crowd with a demo of her routine on Sunday and Monday between amateur and pro freestyle. First round pro freestyle produced dropless routines by Greg Nelson and Eric Wulff. Eric hit Macon Bacon (leaning osis) for the first time ever in this routine. Sunil Jani hit a huge 1-drop routine. Jon Schneider's routine was packed with his creative signature Dragon style tricks and a huge Double Swirl. In the final round the only dropless routine was that of the defending and now current Summer Classic Freestyle Champion, the Executioner, Peter Irish. Pete began with a new juggling combination of tricks that the crowd enthusiastically applauded. Sunil hit another huge routine with only 3 drops. There was plenty of late night entertainment at the Harrisburg East Holiday Inn and the Solonoski residence. Dining, chess, shred circles, net games, hot-tubbing, watching the European World Championship video, and a sing-along kept many entertained for hours both nights. A special thanks to the hard working and caring staff Vince Bradley (here 10 years), Jack Lentz (here all 16 years), Jamie Lepley, Garth Smith, Dave Garber, and Julian Solonoski. A big thanks you to all the sponsors: Funtastik, Oakley, Special Blend, Forum, ES, Etnies, Emerica, and Harrisburg East Holiday Inn. And last but not least thanks to Steve Goldberg, Eric Wulff, the shred counters, freestyle judges and to all the competitors for making the 16th annual a big success. That translates to: you won't see many if any messages from announce@footbag.org, freestyle@footbag.org, or footbag@footbag.org (or possibly other lists) for a few days yet. The server that I use for the lists is having hardware problems, and I am working 20 hours a day (literally) because of a crisis at work. I think I will have time to get things fixed over the weekend, but until then, I request everyone's patience with the lists. I had planned to fix things last weekend but ended up working through the whole thing. Anyway, it's important to understand three things: (1) mail that you may have already sent but that hasn't appeared has not been lost; it is in the "queue" and I will deal with it once I get the problems resolved; (2) if you begin seeing messages again, and a message you previously posted doesn't show up, it's probably because I rejected it for policy reasons; feel free to write and ask me, but I won't proactively e-mail senders (in general) to tell them that their mail is rejected; it just takes more time than I will have; (3) don't stop posting -- no mail will be lost, and especially if you have an important announcement, I'd rather you post it now and have it queued up rather than wait until mail is flowing again and forget :-) Okay, that's it for now. Thanks.
