IFPA is a new member organization for the sport of footbag, dedicated to growing this sport that we all love so much. IFPA is dedicated to teaching footbag, and provides a central on-line resource not only for members, but also for the general public to find information about the alternative sport of footbag. IFPA is also dedicated to fostering competition -- as some of you may know, IFPA was a major financial contributor to the 2001 World Championships. For more on IFPA, I encourage you to read the organization's bylaws and other organizing documents available online at . IFPA members are eligible and encouraged to nominate and vote on the candidates for the elected positions of the IFPA board. Those of you who registered for IFPA during Worlds are the first members. Only current IFPA members are eligible to nominate and vote for candidates for the positions identified in the bylaws. It is too late to join to participate in this vote. Once we complete the election and the transition from the initial board members to the elected board in January, we'll open up the membership system to everyone else who wants to join. We are currently taking nominations for the following elected positions: Executive Director, Treasurer, Rules Director, Marketing Director, and Education Director. Only active members are eligible to hold elected (and appointed) positions. Although this message is going to everyone on the announcement list, only current IFPA members are eligible to submit nominations and be nominated. Please send your nominations to me at julie@footbag.org by November 1. Remember to include the name and the position for each nomination you are making. Officially, only current IFPA members are eligible to nominate and be nominated -- though if there are people who were not able to join at Worlds who would be willing to hold one of the positions below, they can join immediately if elected. Although we're a little behind in getting the nominations done, we still plan to have elections in November. Elections will take place electronically (via the web) in mid-November. Below is a list of IFPA board positions. The first list is for elected positions. These are the positions you can nominate someone for between now and November 1. Please check out the bylaws (http://ifpa.footbag.org/ifpa-bylaws.html) for more details on the positions and terms of each. Elected Directors: - Executive Director - Treasurer - Rules Director - Marketing Director - Education Director Appointed Directors: - Secretary - Communications Editor - Membership Director - Statistician Thanks for your time. Julie Symons, IFPA secretary/treasurer P.S. Please note that the IFC (formerly IFAB) voted this year to "join" the IFPA (as the IFPA Rules Committee). Therefore, the "Rules Director" above, once elected, becomes the de facto chairman of the IFC, and becomes responsible for working with the existing IFC membership to modify the bylaws of the IFC based on the IFPA's charter and bylaws. We're having elections for five positions in November to kick off the organization -- BUT, before we can have elections, we need candidates! The deadline for nominations is NEXT WEEK. All nominations must be received by 11:59pm California time on the night of October 31st. Nominations are made by sending e-mail with the candidate's name, e-mail address, IFPA member number, and/or any other identifiable information (such as footbag.org alias), as well as the position for which you're nominating them (see below), to Julie Symons . Please read through the Q&A below for tons of important information: --- Questions & Answers: 1. When are the elections and what are they for? Voting will take place in November for the five elected positions on the Board of Directors for the IFPA. This is the initial year of operation so all five positions are up for election at once; 2002 will be our first operating year; this election kicks off the IFPA for real. Once we have our full Board of Directors, we can begin operations (see http://ifpa.footbag.org/ for background on IFPA). 2. What positions are up for election? See the end of this e-mail with a complete description of each position as well as initial term of office. 3. I have a candidate in mind, how can I get them on the ballot? Just e-mail their name, contact info, and the position you want to nominate them for to Julie Symons . Please do so immediately. The deadline is October 31 (just a few days away!). 4. Are these paid or volunteer positions? IFPA is an all-volunteer, non-profit organization for public benefit. We may eventually be able to pay for certain staff positions, but not any time soon. 5. Can I nominate myself? Yes. 6. If I'm not a member, can I still nominate someone (or myself)? Certainly. However, please be sure that person is really interested or is really a viable candidate. 7. Does the nominee have to already be an IFPA member? Not exactly. Because the current IFPA membership is limited to only those people who registered at Worlds, we have decided to allow nominees *only* to register early as IFPA members before the election process. So, once we have the list of all nominees and have verified each candidate's willingness to run for office, we will give any of those candidates who are not already members an opportunity to register for IFPA immediately before the election. Again, the only reason we don't fully open registration is that we simply don't have the resources to implement it. There are to date only four people working on the IFPA -- until the elections are complete. 8. Are there other members of the Board of Directors besides the five elected Directors? If so, who are they? Feel free to read the By-Laws at http://ifpa.footbag.org/ to see the official language, but in brief, there are four additional appointed positions: Secretary, Communications Editor, Membership Director, and Statistician. The appointments of those directors will happen after the elections. Anyone is welcome to volunteer by nominating themselves for appointment. 9. Can I vote? You may vote if you are a current IFPA member. 10. Am I an IFPA member? If not, can I become one before the election? Everyone who registered and paid their fees at this summer's World Footbag Championships is automatically a member of the IFPA, as well as a few others who registered for IFPA during our open registration at Worlds. All such individuals are eligible AND ENCOURAGED to vote. We will e-mail you (see 11 below) concerning the election process when the time comes. Unfortunately, general registration for new IFPA members is closed until the elections are over. We are waiting for volunteers to step forward to help with the large amount of work required to get the IFPA up and running, including servicing the membership process. We currently plan to open registration for IFPA after the elections, most likely in late November. 11. I am definitely an IFPA member. How and when will the election take place? How will I find out about it? If you are an IFPA member or think you are, please be sure to update your member profile on footbag.org to indicate your current e-mail address -- we will be sending out the voting information via E-MAIL ONLY, once we have all the candidates and procedures mapped out, and the only place we keep track of people is in the footbag.org member system. If you have forgotten your footbag.org member information or do not currently have an account, please contact me immediately. And, as promised, here's the list of elected positions, including their initial terms of office: Executive Director ------------------ Initial term: 3 years The Executive Director helps develop and guide IFPA policies and strategies, oversees and enforces policies and the By-Laws, and is the figurehead for the organization. The Executive Director ensures that the corporation's non-profit status is adhered to, and creates an environment whereby the other directors (elected and appointed) can execute their roles. The Executive Director is ultimately responsible for ensuring that the policies under which the IFPA operates are developed, agreed upon and implemented, within the paradigms set forth by the By-Laws, and in a timely fashion. The Executive Director is the ultimate authority for decisions insofar as adherence to the By-Laws and/or policies and procedures are concerned, as well as the spirit of the basis for the Association. Treasurer --------- Initial term: 2 years The Treasurer is responsible for developing, guiding, and implementing fiscal policies relative to the day to day operations of the IFPA. The Treasurer is responsible for managing the IFPA's accounts payable and accounts receivable, ensuring the Association operates within the guidelines set forth by the By-Laws and by policy, as well as by federal and state tax laws vis a vis its non-profit status. The Treasurer is responsible for ensuring that the Association has the funds on hand to implement its operations as planned -- including the management of budgets and the budgeting process through which planning is achieved on a quarterly or annual basis -- as well as to meet its financial obligations both to its creditors and to the federal and state governments. The Treasurer is ultimately responsible for the collection of accounts receivable and for correctly accounting for those revenues and payments for goods and services according to U.S. tax law and according to the non-profit purposes of the corporation. As with all Director positions, the Treasurer may bestow various fiduciary responsibilities as required to other Directors (whether elected or appointed), to individual members of the IFPA, or to IFPA-based committees, so long as the Treasurer is ultimately accountable. Marketing Director ------------------ Initial term: 2 years The Marketing Director's role can be split into two phases. During the first phase (probably the first 6 months of office for the initial year), the Marketing Director will develop a set of policies and roles for the position of Marketing Director itself, thereby defining the role in more detail than is only briefly defined by the IFPA By-Laws. In the second phase, the Marketing Director will execute the role as was defined in the first phase. Minimally, the role of Marketing Director will involve the development of a strategy, a set of policies and guidelines, and an operating plan for promoting the sport of footbag -- and specifically, footbag events of various forms, which have the most opportunity to help grow the sport and, indirectly, the overall membership of the IFPA. The fundamental goals of the Marketing Director are to direct the IFPA's resources towards the global growth of the sport as measured by membership in the IFPA, attendance at events around the world, and revenue that the IFPA can garner to put towards this and the other purposes of the Association. Rules Director -------------- Initial term: 1 year The Rules Director will assume the responsibilities of the chairman of the previously-named IFC -- International Footbag Committee. The IFC rules committee will continue in its current form in the short term, as committee of IFPA members, whose annual meeting will be held at the World Footbag Championships in 2002, and organized and led by the Rules Director. The Rules Director will work with the IFC rules committee to formalize a set of policies surrounding the operation of the rules committee going forward, molding the previously-existing By-Laws of the IFC into a set of policies under the umbrella of the IFPA's By-Laws regarding the process for amending and developing official rules of footbag sports. The Rules Director is ultimately responsible for the establishment, validity, clarity, adoption, and enforcement of the official rules of footbag sports, as well as the communication of those rules through whatever channels possible. The Rules Director will ensure that the official rules are kept up to date and that rule changes are reflected in a timely manner wherever the rules are distributed, including the footbag.org website. As with other Director positions, the Rules Director may choose to delegate or assign responsibilities to other parties in whole or in part, but is ultimately responsible that the policies, guidelines, and By-Laws relating to the rule-making process be correctly implemented. Education Director ------------------ Initial term: 1 year The Education Director is responsible for developing the foundation for educating the public on the sport of footbag, including a set of strategies, policies, and frameworks supporting the education of footbag. Where possible, the Education Director will establish a "library" not only of educational materials relative to the sport (mostly through the footbag.org website), but also of "kits" and "programs" that IFPA members, clubs, or committees can use themselves to educate others according to the aforementioned strategies, policies, and frameworks. In addition, during the first year of office, the Education Director will further define his or her role and to document this information in the official IFPA policies for the succeeding elected Education Director. (The incumbent Education Director may certainly be re-elected, but the first individual to occupy this role may only serve for one year; from then on, the term of office as with all other elected offices is three years.) --- Shew, that was a lot of info. :-) Steve From owner-announce@list.footbag.org Fri Oct 26 19:28:16 2001 Received: (from majordom@localhost) by list.footbag.org (8.9.3/8.9.3) id TAA21041 for announce-outgoing; Fri, 26 Oct 2001 19:28:16 -0700 X-Authentication-Warning: list.footbag.org: majordom set sender to owner-announce@footbag.org using -f Received: from mail2.pvt.net (mail2.pvt.net [194.149.101.165]) by llic.net (8.9.3/8.9.3/Debian 8.9.3-21) with ESMTP id DAA03358 for ; Fri, 26 Oct 2001 03:27:33 -0700 Received: from footbag-comp (phvD127.nextra.cz [213.210.135.127]) by mail2.pvt.net (Postfix) with SMTP id 5D1DBCD655 for ; Fri, 26 Oct 2001 12:26:45 +0200 (CEST) Message-ID: <011d01c15e08$1d776dc0$7f87d2d5@footbag-comp> From: "Jan Struz" To: Subject: [announce] 1st Czech Footbag Championships - November 10-11, 2001 Date: Fri, 26 Oct 2001 12:22:27 +0200 MIME-Version: 1.0 Content-Type: text/plain; charset="iso-8859-2" Content-Transfer-Encoding: 7bit X-Priority: 3 X-MSMail-Priority: Normal X-Mailer: Microsoft Outlook Express 4.72.3110.5 X-MimeOLE: Produced By Microsoft MimeOLE V4.72.3110.3 Sender: owner-announce@footbag.org Hi all footbag fanatics, The 1st official Czech footbag champs are coming in few days.
