Hopefully we can make a good impression on the X-Games crew and make it an annual event. I know it's probably a bit late for all the overseas players to make the trip, however there are still a lot of Aussie players whom we urge to enter. The event is Friday through Sunday, Dec. 7-9, at the Olympic Park in Sydney, Australia. The schedule is below. More information is at http://www.footbag.org/ on the events list. Friday: 11 am - Registration 1-3 pm - Singles 5-minute timed consecutives 4-6 pm - Doubles freestyle Saturday: 10-11 am - Sic 3 heats 12-2 pm - Singles freestyle heats 3-6 pm - Doubles 5 minute timed consecutives Sunday: 12-1 pm - Sic 3 finals 4-6 pm - Singles freestyle finals (inside Superdome) I urge everyone to be there on the Friday (at least in the afternoon). I have been told that everyone must sign waiver forms or else they firstly cannot get tickets for the Sunday, and secondly they cannot compete on the Sunday. Here's how to get to the Planet X Summer Games at Sydney Olympic Park: By Car: Major roads surround Sydney Olympic Park: access from the East and West via Parramatta Road and the M4 motorway; access from the North and South via Homebush Bay Drive. Parking: The large 3,400 capacity car park is located adjacent to the Sydney SuperDome. The P1 car parking station is accessible from Edwin Flack Avenue. As well as P1 there are an additional 6,600 spaces located within 10 minutes walk. By Train: Olympic Park Railway Station is located on Olympic Boulevard - only a short 5-minute walk from the Sydney SuperDome & Stadium Australia. Trains that connect to the main western line between Flemington and Lidcombe stations access Olympic Park Railway Station. By Bus: A major 50 coach capacity coach park is located beside the P1 car parking station and regular buses service Sydney Olympic Park. Further transport information and timetables may be obtained by contacting the State Transit Authority on 131-500. By Ferry: The Sydney Olympic Park precinct is positioned along the shores of the Parramatta River. A state-of-the-art ferry terminal allows modern Rivercats to connect the precinct to the Parramatta CBD and the city CBD. Rivercats are met by regular bus services ensuring patrons are escorted to the entrance of the Sydney SuperDome & Stadium Australia. On Foot: Footpath and cycle ways criss-cross the precinct with direct access provided to Concord West Railway Station approximately 2.9km from the Sydney SuperDome & Stadium Australia. Despite the early inclement weather, there was plenty of kicking and exposure to the public. Video footage will hopefully be available soon. The finals of the freestyle singles were held inside the stadium in front of a crowd of approximately 1,000 people. A highlight was the freestyle battle between New Zealand and Australia kickers. Other highlights included the kicking of the Ednie brothers. Dan, 14 was eighth in the final while Mikey, 11 had a run which included 8 various two add moves, butterflies on both sides and a symposium mirage. [Ed. Note: I was there, and Lynton's too bashful to say he also took first place with a wonderfully crowd-pleasing dropless routine with enough difficulty to beat NZ's own Adrian Dick. -Steve] It looks almost certain that the event will again feature in next years extreme games. Hopefully, with our added exposure, we can attract some higher profile American players. Thanks goes to Brendan Erskine who organised the competition. Further thanks goes to Steve Goldberg who excelled in his MC role. Thanks also for the guidance during the comp. The jam was originally to take place on 12/22, BUT WILL NOW BE HELD ON ** January 5, 2002 ** due to site availability. The event site is awesome, and there will be a nice spectator base in place, as a teen dance type of thing will be going on at the same time as our event. Also, we've already had confirmation from Kenny Shults, Peter Irish, Scott Bevier, Jon Schneider... The level of play is going to be great! And, as always, we would like to event footbag players of any discipline to attend. Please find full details on the event at: http://www.footbag.org/calendar/show/1007420059 Thanks very much.
