The criteria, per announcement on 1/30/02 via announce@footbag.org, was the opportunity to support nominations of your peers until 3/31/02, with inclusion on the ballot based on the top 5, including ties, in multiple nominations received by 3/31/02. Based on that opportunity, please join with me in congratulating the following leaders of Footbag for their inclusion on this year's final ballot, based on your support: Allan Petersen, Rippin' Rick Reese, Chris "Gator" Routh, Eric Wulff, Ian Kobiyashi, Chris Ott, and Jay Moldenhauer! In addition, based on the final ballot voting in 2001, the following peers of yours have been carried over to this year's final ballot: Eric Cole, Samantha "Sam" Conlon, Derrick Fogle, Sabra Jean hall, Maxwell Smith Jr., and Tim Vozar! These 13 peers of yours will now be voted upon by the current members of your Hall of Fame in a May vote, with announcement of those being inducted by a 66% majority vote by June 7th. At this time, the Hall of Fame membership invites you to provide any testimonials on these nominees to receive by April 20th, for inclusion with the final ballot mailing on May 1st. Please send to: FootbagHallofFame@footbag.org (do not cc this e-mail list), or you may send feedback/testimonials and relevant pictures of these nominees via US Mail to: Footbag Hall of Fame Historical Society P.O. BOX 1065 Camas, WA 98607 U.S.A. NOTE: all pictures will be scanned and returned to you safely and promptly. Thank you for your participation in this first step of honoring your peers in 2002! You, as well as they, make a difference in the growth of Footbag world-wide. In addition to the above final ballot nominees, please join with me in thanking all of those that were nominated this year, for their leadership in your sport's growth: Brent and Jody Welch, Steve Blough, Peter Irish, Peter Shunny, Scott Milne, Jon Lind, Brenda and Joe Solonoski, Ida Fogle, Martin Cote, Lisa McDaniel, Julie Symons, Randy Nelson, Jeff Hass, Justin Sexton, Chard Cook, Etienne Constable, R.B. Benedetti, Ken Hamric, Ed LaMacchia, "Pop" Warner, Tony Robinson, Gary Griggs, Randy Mulder, Fred Kippley, Gary Preston, Lee Guenther, "Dutch" Holland, Beal Beathurum, Jeremy Kumbruck, and Jubal Hume! Lastly, but not least of those to be thanked, Steve Goldberg, our webmaster and inspiration leader and President of the new IFPA.. Steve formerly withdrew his name from consideration this year, in order that you might consider those that inspired him. As we all agree, his time will come soon enough. Thank you, Steve! Please consider supporting these nominees further in 2003, and, meanwhile, join in supporting this year's final ballot vote via your testimonials now. A party in honor of this year's inductees will be held as part of finals weekend, August 9th to 12th. Look for further announcements via www.footbag.org, and plan to be a part of your World Championships! Pass It On! I'd like to announce that the Team Finnsta will host a two-day footbag event in Helsinki, Finland, on the 15th and 16th of June!! There will be both net and freestyle events for intermediate and open players, so people, start making plans for the summer, because the best players from northern Europe are coming to one place on the 15th & 16th of June: Helsinki. It's definitely the place to be, especially on summertime. So, mark your calendars and book your flight, train, boat, bus or whatever-tickets to Finland... now. Something to highlight of the event itself: We have got an insane place in the heart of Helsinki for the 2nd day of the event: an old warehouse that's been modified into a huge party house which is known for hosting many lifestyle and Funk and Rap -oriented partys. We are going to hold the freestyle finals and net exhibitions at the site on Sunday, and after that in the same place there will be a huge party (Finnish style of course;) with top notch finnish funk and rap bands. More accurate info of the event will be posted later to this list and to the event calendar in footbag.org! This e-mail is to inform you that The World Footbag Championships of 2002 is alive and well and running full steam towards creating the greatest world championships event ever! The event is set for August 5-11, 2002, in San Francisco, California (USA). Things are starting to shape up, and to prove it I am here to announce the official website of the World Footbag Championships - 2002. This website is designed to be informational and fun for player and spectator alike. Due to the fact that it is designed with the our footbag audience in mind, as well as the player, it is a bit different than WFC sites of the past. There is more emphasis on fun content describing what the sport actually is, who the feature players are, and when feature events take place. All the information you, the player, will need, and more, will be here -- eventually. :-) Keep in mind that the site is a work in progress. We will fill in the necessary info as it becomes available. Stay tuned. Be patient. Thanks. Regarding the fun stuff! I believe Tu Vu sent out an e-mail a couple of weeks ago looking for response from our players outside the USA. If you haven't responded already than perhaps the new worlds website will help inspire. Tu Vu & Co. is the creative force behind the player profiles which will be published in print, on the website and, in some cases, produced as player bio video commercials which we will be showing off at the freestyle theater on finals nights. You do not necessarily have to be a freestyler to get into one of these videos. But, you do need to get involved and get us the info we need. I have copied Tu's message below. Kindly respond to him ASAP to get the ball rolling. Tu says... If you do not live in North America and you are considering coming to the World Footbag Championships in beautiful, romantic, and exotic San Francisco this August 5-11, could you please drop me a little e-mail to tell me you are coming. Tu's e-mail: tuhuge@hotmail.com We want to make to sure you international players are represented!!! Also, there is a need for high quality photos from all footbag players coming to Worlds this year, not just international players. If you have some great photos of yourself that are high quality, drop me an e-mail (send me an e-mail first before sending any photos!) If you guys enjoyed worlds last year, than you have seen nothing yet. Period. Thanks so much! Tu (members of Worlds 2002 staff) Okay, that's it for now. Many announcements from here on out will come via the website so stay tuned. 3 months and 17 days until Worlds 2002! See you soon. And now, the website address: http://www.footbag.org/worlds2002/ Sincere thanks to Eric Cote for, once again, volunteering his hard work, patience and expertise in assisting in the design of a website for the footbag community. As most of you probably know, I spend many hours every week just handling e-mail from people seeking footbag-related help with everything from how to edit their club listing on footbag.org to how to run their own tournament (including how to find sponsors). Most questions lie somewhere in between. Every once-in-a-while, I get a wild bug and go off and write a new section to my "frequently-asked questions" (FAQ) area on footbag.org (see it now at http://www.footbag.org/faq to understand what I'm talking about). But the more I think about it, the more I feel footbag.org is inadequate at one of its primary goals -- to disseminate information about footbag in all of its forms and in all of the varieties of things people come to a site like footbag.org to look for. For example, there's almost nothing on footbag.org of an instructional nature -- especially not for the net game. While there's a copy of the IFC rule book on there (if you can find it and if it weren't 5 years out of date), it's really asking too much to make people figure out for themselves what all those run-on sentences really mean. :-) So, the challenge. I am looking for the following: (1) A volunteer (first and foremost) to "own" the FAQ section of footbag.org, which is actually like the rest of my site and is set up to allow anyone to add new entries and edit existing ones, if they have permission, using a set of web forms. (2) *Qualified* authors of FAQ entries on various topics who can work with the person in (1) to actually update the site. Not everything has to be a FAQ entry -- things can merit their own placement in the main menu (such as, if you look, there is a "net" section on footbag.org, but it's basically useless). So, my call to action is this -- do *not* send me suggestions now. Do not waste your time or mine writing up all your great ideas. Now's not the time (though be thinking about it). Instead, please e-mail me privately (do not cc: the list!) if you are willing to volunteer to be either (1) or (2). And if (2), tell me what general areas you think you're an expert at (this will just help, it's not required as there may be many topics you can help with, too many to enumerate.) I will then pick one person to be the "owner", and I will give that person the names/e-mails of the people who replied to (2), and we'll go from there! Please reply if you are willing to help with either by Friday, please. I'd like to get this project moving. Note, for those of you experts who are wondering what you get out of it, not only will you be contributing to this great resource (which should be enough), but you'll get credit for your contributions as every entry on the FAQ section of footbag.org acknowledges and credits the author. (Go check it out and you'll see what I mean.) Thanks for your attention. You may now continue thinking about how *you* can contribute to footbag.org. :-) Steve From owner-announce@list.footbag.org Sat Apr 27 15:44:48 2002 Received: (from majordom@localhost) by llic.net (8.9.3/8.9.3/Debian 8.9.3-21) id PAA05644 for announce-outgoing@list.footbag.org; Sat, 27 Apr 2002 15:44:48 -0700 Received: from hacky10 ([63.27.222.62]) by mtiwmhc24.worldnet.att.net (InterMail vM.4.01.03.27 201-229-121-127-20010626) with SMTP id <20020427125328.XBBO18857.mtiwmhc24.worldnet.att.net@hacky10> for ; Sat, 27 Apr 2002 12:53:28 +0000 Message-ID: <000301c1edeb$07b9d040$3ede1b3f@earthlink.net> From: "Steve Smith" To: Subject: [announce] Footbag's Newest Kicker! The 2002 Southern Regional Footbag Championship will take place on May 18th and 19th and will be held in conjunction with The Taste of Addison. The estimated attendance for The Taste of Addison is around 50,000, and the event includes food, beer, carnival and midway, bands, and more food. The festival is free for all competitors. Addison is located approximately 15 miles north of downtown Dallas. As always, this is a prize money event that will include Freestyle, Net, Golf and Consecs. We've got a great golf course at Heights Park in Richardson, about 15 minutes from the festival site. Tee off times are 8:30 a.m. on Saturday and 9:00 a.m. on Sunday...fore! For freestyle shred and warm-up, we have a sweet area, inside the festival, right next to the 'kids area,' and about 25 yards from the main thoroughfare. For Open Freestyle competition, we will have 30 minutes on Saturday and Sunday, on the dance floor in front of the main stage. As mentioned above, I am still working on the net site but will have something in place before you get here. We will have discounted rates at nearby hotels. (details to come) Hope to see lots of you.
