Content-Type: text/plain; charset="us-ascii" ; format="flowed" X-Scanned-By: Spam Scanner (MIMEDefang 2.21, footbag edition) Sender: owner-announce@list.footbag.org Sorry for the spam, but this is the last one on this topic. :-) For those of you who don't understand how Worlds registration works, please read this. You *must pre-pay* for your Worlds registration by *tonight* at midnight (California time). For those of you reading this in Europe, that means 9am European time on Tuesday morning. It's 3am Eastern time in North America. http://www.footbag.org/registration/register?tid=1035277529 If your registration has not been paid for by tonight, your registration will be cancelled and you will be required to re-register at the tournament check-in on Sunday, July 27th. However, registering at that late date creates a hardship for the tournament organizers, and as such you will be charged a 10 Euro "late penalty" in addition to the normal charges. http://www.footbag.org/registration/register?tid=1035277529 Please understand that we now have *200* competitors pre-registered for this event! (Though, sadly, not nearly that many have confirmed and paid their registration fees.) Such a large turn-out means we (the Worlds organizers) must have 2 full to organize all the events (including seeding the players, making the pools, getting all the information we can into the program, knowing what T-shirt sizes to order, knowing how many programs and player booklets to print, etc., etc). That's why we have a registration deadline in the first place. If you plan to compete, and have not registered (and cannot register by the close of registration), we're very sorry but there will be no exceptions to the late fee. You have had ample opportunity up until now and we have made every effort to get people to pre-register *and* pre-pay. If you pre-registered but did not pre-pay, you still have a few hours! So go pay now! http://www.footbag.org/registration/register?tid=1035277529 Steve From owner-announce@list.footbag.org Thu Jul 10 16:54:32 2003 Received: from llic.net (localhost [127.0.0.1]) by llic.net (8.12.3/8.12.3/Debian-6.4) with ESMTP id h6ANsQfM010120 for ; Thu, 10 Jul 2003 16:54:26 -0700 Received: (from majordom@localhost) by llic.net (8.12.3/8.12.3/Debian-6.4) id h6ANsQ3K010118 for announce-outgoing@list.footbag.org; Thu, 10 Jul 2003 16:54:26 -0700 X-Authentication-Warning: llic.net: majordom set sender to owner-announce@list.footbag.org using -f Received: from [212.227.126.220] (helo=mrvdomng.kundenserver.de) by moutvdom.kundenserver.de with esmtp (Exim 3.35 #1) id 19abVx-0004Se-00 for announce@footbag.org; Thu, 10 Jul 2003 15:31:13 +0200 Received: from [194.29.253.160] (helo=x) by mrvdomng.kundenserver.de with smtp (Exim 3.35 #1) id 19abVx-00084u-00 for announce@footbag.org; Thu, 10 Jul 2003 15:31:13 +0200 Message-ID: <004e01c346ef$f7798450$d1fd1dc2@x> From: "Matthias Lino Schmidt" To: announce@footbag.org Subject: [announce] Results: German Footbag Open 2003 Date: Thu, 10 Jul 2003 16:29:06 -0700 MIME-Version: 1.0 Content-Type: text/plain; charset="iso-8859-1" Content-Transfer-Encoding: 8bit X-Priority: 3 X-MSMail-Priority: Normal X-Mailer: Microsoft Outlook Express 6.00.2600.0000 X-MimeOLE: Produced By Microsoft MimeOLE V6.00.2600.0000 X-Scanned-By: Spam Scanner (MIMEDefang 2.21, footbag edition) Sender: owner-announce@list.footbag.org The event took place July 4-5, 2003, in Zeil, Germany. The Second Annual U.S. Open Footbag Freestyle Championships (IFPA Sanctioned) is taking place at McCormick Place in Chicago (as a part of "Holiday Sports Festival"), Illinois on December 26-28. Actual competition will all take place on Saturday, December 28th. Please join us on Friday the 26th of December for footbag exhibitions, demonstrations, clinics and random shred sessions all day. Saturday will be competition all day for all levels of play, and over $1,000.00 prize purse for the pro's . Sunday will be a big shred day for everyone! We are going to have an interactive site and we are looking for people to help us to run the "instructional" part of the event. We will be paying our helpers (either in cash, product or maybe a free room if I can swing it). By helping, you won't be subjecting yourself to full days of tyrannical work schedules, rather you will be a part of a team of people who will be presenting our sport to the children of the City of Chicago, in shifts, from Noon to 5 on Friday and Sunday. We are also running a fun event on Sunday ("All Shred") that will ensure that all entrants get to shred with all of our top professionals, including many BAP members. We are planning on paying our top pro's to be a part of this event, details to follow. This is an event designed to introduce all kinds of sports to the general public, and each sport has an interactive area where kids can try them out. Some sports also have major tournaments going on, such as Volleyball, Soccer and 3-on-3 Basketball (and now, Footbag). With Free Parking and Free Admission to the event, this is a great event to bring the family to (Derrick?), it's lots of fun for all! I'm already working on sponsors. This will be a great event, don't miss it! Complete information will be posted at http://www.footbag.org soon. When I say "complete" information, I mean a detailed schedule, luxury hotel discounts worth over $200 in savings per night ($79 rooms at the HYATT are going to happen again, keep an eye out for the instructions), driving directions, and tons more information. If the footbag.org/events website doesn't answer your questions, contact me directly. See ya there! Last weekend "Le championnat international de footbag 2003" took place. With uncertain weather predictions, the action went on with very few delays from the rain and we thanks the footbag gods for it. We didn't get a whole lot of players (26) but the level of competition made up for the quantity. We were honored to have the world's doubles footbag net champions Chris Siebert and Peter Shunny. For the second year we had a central court with quite big stands (350 seats), a beer and drinks concession and excellent music powered by DJ Philgood. The public response was pretty good. I want to thanks Yves Archambault and Patrick Asswad for their hard work at organizing this event with the help of a dozen Montreal crew. Patrick and Yves decided to bring the Montreal event to a new level by making it a spectator event The central court setup really makes a difference by attracting hundreds of spectators. I also want to thanks our sponsors for their support Heineken, Zaz Bar, Moog audio, Central Records and DJ Philgood, ProKicker footbags, La Godasse footwear, Gravi-T (footbag demo and animation), Gravis footwear. http://www.footbag.org/events/show/1039550946 Novice Singles Net 1. Yves Archambault and I (the current World Champions) are holding a footbag net training camp in Prague on Saturday, July 26th, just before the World Footbag Championships. The training will be held from 11:00am to 5:00pm (17.00). The location will be confirmed by e-mail to the footbag@footbag.org mailing list and will also be available by asking around at the Strahov Youth Hostel where many players will be staying. We will most probably hold the training at Kampa Park where everyone else will be -- directions to Kampa Park will be available at the hostel and will be coming soon in the e-mail from the Worlds organizers. Kampa park is within walking distance of the Strahov hostel. This is an exclusive camp and we will only take 20 participants! You can reserve your place by e-mailing me immediately at manu@footbag.org . All levels of skills will be accepted, first come, first served. There is a 20 Euro fee associated with the training camp. We will provide the nets. See you in Prague! This will be a fun and very casual tournament. Prize money and awards will be given. E-mail if you have any questions or need more information. Watch the even page as we will be updating it as we get closer to the tournament. The event listing is on footbag.org at: http://www.footbag.org/events/show/1058378281 (If you write me, you may have to wait til I get back from Worlds for a response!). Also, let me know if you would like to volunteer to help with the event. The whole crew that has its hands on this big event is excited to host all of footbaggers who are coming. This e-mail is meant to give you the details you will need upon your arrival in Prague if you are planning to attend. Most of this stuff is on the worlds website, but just in case, we're summarizing it here. First of all, here's the address of the event site -- we will have all events in the same location! (For those of you who were at the European Championships in 2001, this is basically the same site. However, it's a different part of the sports complex.) Event Site: Stadium Slavia (Slavia Sports Complex) Vladivostocka 1460/10 Praha 10 - Vrsovice (Praha = Prague, Vrsovice is the district) Dates: July 28 - August 3, 2003 We will also have a pre-worlds kick (as is the custom) that people can go to when they arrive in Prague. The schedule for the pre-worlds kick is: PRE-WORLDS KICKS: (1) Saturday, July 26 1:00pm - 7:00pm Kampa Park (about 10 minutes' walk from the youth hostel) (2) Sunday, July 27 12:00pm - 6:00pm Kampa Park Now some very important reminders for those coming: (1) If you still haven't booked your accommodation please do so NOW here: http://www.footbag.org/worlds2003/lodging.html (2) You have to check in for your event one day before it starts, no later than Monday! Look up the schedule on the website at: http://www.footbag.org/worlds2003/prog.html The first check-in period starts on the July 27 (THIS SUNDAY) at 18.00 (6pm) in the host hostel Strahov (Hostel Welcome Strahov, Vanickova 5, Praha 6). The second one is on Monday at 11.00 at the tournament site. (3) Due to the enormous number of freestylers attending this year's world championships, we will be having the intermediate qualification on Wednesday morning earlier than originally posted. All intermediates should plan to show up at the freestyle venue at 8.00 (8:00am) to begin this first qualification round. So, PLEASE NOTE: all INTERMEDIATE competitors in freestyle must be at the site at 8:00am. If you are an intermediate player and cannot attend at this time, we will refund your entry fee if you already paid it. (4) The Freestyle tent that will be standing on the event site will be NON-SMOKING for the entire week. Please respect the players by not smoking in there. Once the party starts on Saturday night (after finals) all bets are off. But until then, you will be ejected from the tent if you light up. We have bouncers. :-) (5) Those of you who forgot to pay and/or did not register by the deadline, you still have an opportunity to register and pay at the check-in desk. These late payments and registrations will be fined an extra 10,- Euro. Even though the currency in Prague is still not the Euro (but rather the Czech Crown) we are doing everything in Euros to make it easier for the bulk of the competitors who are coming from other European countries. You can of course pay in CZK's as well. NOTE: because we already have too many intermediate competitors for our tough schedule, we will not be taking any late registrations for the intermediate competition. (6) The sites are easy to find, but here is a brief explanation of how to get to them: a. Strahov Youth Hostel: in the first district of Prague, up the hill from the river (on the west side of the river). b. Kampa Park: along the river, on the west side of the Charles Bridge (Karluv Most) and the Stare Mesto (Old Town) district. It is several blocks south of Karluv Most. You have to meander south-ward if you come from downtown across the bridge, to make your way south along the river. It is on the same side of the river as the Strahov youth hostel where most people will be staying. It is along the river, so don't go too far west. c. Slavia Stadium: This is in the 10th district of Prague (Vrsovice), southeast of the Strahov youth hostel +/- 5km. Transit info will be available at the Strahov hostel as well as at check-in on Sunday at the hostel (and you can ask people at Kampa park on Saturday or Sunday). Most taxis will know the location if you get desperate. d. You can find all these sites online using the mapping service at http://mapy.atlas.cz -- this has an English option though some things are hard to understand even so. :-) Click "Praha" in the middle of that page and you will see a nice map of Prague that you can navigate through and find sites within. (7) Mobile phones are a very convenient way to keep in touch and find people here. If you have a GSM phone that works in Europe, you should consider buying a PrePay SIM card to use for the week you're in Prague. OSKAR is the cheapest company by far, though the coverage is not quite as good, and you can't use the card outside Czech Republic. But for under EU 30 you can have pretty much all the text messaging and local calls you need for the week. For those of you coming from the USA, you will need a European-capable GSM phone. You can of course buy a phone here for a reasonable price, but you will be throwing it away when you leave, unless you plan to do more travelling in the future. That should about cover it. If you need more information, please check the website at http://www.footbag.org/worlds2003/ and/or send an e-mail to worlds03@ifpa.footbag.org Thank you and see you, Jan Struz & the whole worlds 2003 team http://www.footbag.org/worlds2003
