I'm Dave Ostry, a member of the footbag net scene in the United Kingdom. Our club is the only net club in the UK and that I know about, and we've been playing for a few years here. We're a small group and not very good, always trying to expand and raise the profile. As it turns out, the BBC is planning to make a TV programme with us about the net game in late November. As this is a programme oriented towards youth, we are training up a few kids (11 to 13 yrs) over the next few weeks (October/November 2003) to be ready for the programme. If any experienced players are passing through London in the next few weeks (e.g. en route to the French tournament), please come along to one of our regular weekly sessions (Sundays) to help train kids up (and the adults!), and help us out with ideas for the programme, or come on the programme yourself. Or if you know any kids in England who want to participate, tell them to get in touch with me. As always, players are always welcome at any time, even if you are just passing through London, come and kick with us. Our club is listed on footbag.org at http://www.footbag.org/clubs/show/997822843 [Moderator's note: please don't post a follow-up to this message. This will be the third time the main event in footbag will have been held in Montreal, and the fourth time in Canada. The tentative dates are August 2-8, 2004. We will inform you as soon as the dates are fixed via e-mail to this mailing list as well as the event listing on footbag.org. Of course much more information will be coming throughout the next months as the organizers start putting this event together. With the World Footbag Championships returning to North America after this year's first-ever detour to Europe it will bring a lot of fresh energy and also quite a substantial number of European players with it. So expect next year's Worlds to once again be record-breaking in all aspects. As for the city of Montreal -- Montreal is filled with interests as it is a very cosmopolitan town. You will find food of various cultures, as well as lots of different activities. The distinct French background is a part of Quebec's cultural heritage and adds a charming accent to the ambient environment. Don't worry though -- most people are bilingual in the city. It is also very easy to get around in Montreal by metro or buses, and it is one of the least expensive cities in North America. For European travelers especially, the exchange rate is very advantageous as the Euro is very strong towards the Canadian dollar. Of course, as it is a very important factor for a lot of Footbag players, Montreal is an excellent party town as well. More information will be posted as it becomes available, on this e-mail list as well as on the official Worlds 2004 website (coming soon). For now, you can check http://www.footbag.org/events for information on this and other upcoming events in footbag. Early requests and questions can be answered by e-mailing the official Worlds '04 Organizing Committee's mailing list, . Sincerely, Jan Zimmermann IFPA Worlds Oversight Committee http://www.footbag.org/groups/list/woc
