What better place for a tournament than an art and music festival? With that in mind, read on! The 1999 Southern Regional Footbag Championships will be held this April 24-25 near Dallas, TX in conjunction with the Wildflower! Arts and Music Festival. The festival is an annual event that brings around 50,000 people over the weekend to see art, listen to live music, watch inline skating and FOOTBAG! See our web page (http://dallasfootbag.org/southern99.html) for details, and if you forget that address, you can always find us listed on the event list at http://www.footbag.org/events/ If you want to be told of any changes in plans, write to me derric@dallasfootbag.org and I'll put you on a Southern Regional mailing list. I promise that there will be no more than a message every other week or so telling you what you need to know. Freestyler? Last year, we had 5 BAP people. This year, we should have more. Right now, we are scheduling freestyle competitions on Saturday so that you will be free to shred 'till your legs fall off on Sunday without having to worry about saving anything for a routine. Sound good? Then come on down. Net Player? We have the same site as last year with a professionally manicured lawn of some kind of robo-grass. After an entire tournament last year, the grass was standing better than the nets. Traction is not a problem. No ant beds, no dirt, nothing but grass that is so perfect it seems more like tall, soft astro turf. Golfer? Well, it never hurts to ask. Some of us like golf. And, for those that do, we have a killer course. Last year, we had twenty something golfers come out at 7am two days in a row. All of us had fun, and we will do it again this year - hopefully a little later than 7... Like promoting footbag? As I said before, this tournament is being held in conjunction with the Wildflower! Arts and Music Festival (http://www.cor.net/wildflower/homepage.html) There will be a stage set up close to us so that we will constantly have people surrounding us. Bust out the Lavers and net shoes boys and girls... it is time to show off! Inline skating and BMX (is that the word for bikes on ramps?) will be going on around the corner. This festival is almost like a little Xgames. In it for the money? This IS a prize money event. Depending on a lot of stuff, the amount of prize money will change. Last year, we had over $2000. Hopefully, we will have at least that much this year. Entry Fees open - $25 + $5 per prize money event intermediate - $20 novice (first time competitors only) - free Player's Packs are included for all intermediate and open players. This includes a T-shirt and some other stuff. We are working to find free or discounted food and other stuff. Hope to see everyone there. -Derric Dallas Footbag Club From owner-announce@eniac.yak.net Thu Jan 28 16:18:04 1999 Received: (from majordom@localhost) by eniac.yak.net (8.9.0.Beta5/8.9.0.Beta5) id QAA28799 for announce-outgoing; Thu, 28 Jan 1999 16:18:04 GMT X-Authentication-Warning: eniac.yak.net: majordom set sender to owner-announce using -f Received: (qmail 14320 invoked by uid 60001); 25 Jan 1999 16:01:53 -0000 Message-ID: <19990125160153.14319.qmail@ww181.netaddress.usa.net> Received: from 204.68.24.81 by ww181 via web-mailer(R2.6) on Mon Jan 25 16:01:53 GMT 1999 Date: 25 Jan 99 17:01:53 MET From: Jan Zimmermann To: announce@footbag.org Subject: [announce] EUROPEAN FOOTBAG MASTERS 1999 BERLIN Mime-Version: 1.0 Content-Type: text/plain; charset=us-ascii Content-Transfer-Encoding: 8bit X-MIME-Autoconverted: from quoted-printable to 8bit by eniac.yak.net id QAA29867 Sender: owner-announce@footbag.org THE FOOTBAG CONSPIRACY and FC FOOTSTAR BERLIN e.V. proudly presents; EUROPEAN FOOTBAG MASTERS 1999 Events: Freestyle Intermediate Freestyle Singles net Doubles net Intermediate singles net, Intermediate doubles net JUNE 19. 1999 is kick off time for the first European Footbag Meeting in a long while. Hosted by the Footbag Conspiracy, FC Footstar Berlin e.V. We invite Players of all nations and ages to join us in Berlin for a weekend of fun and competition. This is the firs tournament we are hosting but we think it is about time for the european footbag comunity to get together for an exchange and measuring of skills. Date and location are set so far so this thing is really going to happen... right now we're working on the details (any suggestions welcome) such as sponsoring, housing the players, where to party, etc. This is only the first announcement, an official announcement with more details will be posted around march. We plan the whole thing as more of a friendly meeting and exchange than a true competition (although the european chamion in the above categories will be determined), so anyone interested in footbag, no matter the skillevel is welcome. Please be so kind as to write us a short mail if you are interested to come or have any questions/suggestions. We are trying to get as much feedback as possible. If you are interested to come please send us your name, age, e-mail adress and the category you would like to compete in (we would like to know as soon as possible how many competitors we are to expect) as well as an assesment of your skillevel (intermediate or pro). Note that if you have ever competed in intermediate level in the states you should probably rank yourself pro level for this tournament. If you have no idea where to rank your skill in freestyle tell us the hardest trick you can do in net just tell us if you have reached a solid spiking level yet. WE HOPE TO HAVE A FIRST ASSESSMENT OF THE NUMBER OF PEOPLE INTERESTED IN COMING BY END OF FEBRUARY, SO PLEASE ANSWER AS SOON AS POSSIBLE. THE SOONER WE KNOW HOW BIG THIS THING IS GONNA BE THE EASIER IT IS FOR US TO ORGANIZE, PLUS IT WILL HELP US BARGAINING WITH POTENTIAL SPONSORS. We hope to raise enough money so that your stay in Berlin will be free but this can not be guaranteed at this point. We found a place to stay in a Youth Hotel which takes about 50,-DM per night with breakfast so you can calculate your maximum expenses with about that amount, but as I said we're trying to make your stay here as convenient and cheap as possible. Footbag on Jenny Jones show, to air 1/29/99 Sender: owner-announce@footbag.org Hi Footbaggers! Watch: Jenny Jones Show Friday, January 29, 1999 Check your local listing for time and channel. I did a little footbag juggling and shredding on the Jenny Jones show. I have to say, I didn't like the way it went, not because they bashed me, which they didn't... but because of my performance, and because I may have been able to stay on longer, as Jenny wanted to talk more... but I bailed after the stage director waved me off. Anyway, it is generally a good performance, not really difficult at all, and I got to plug www.footbag.org on national TV. So I hope you like it, See ya! Y100, the biggest radio station in Philly is covering the event, as well as local newspapers and prehaps even the Philadelphia Inquirer. Sponsors are starting to roll in now, but it seems there aren't enough hours in the day to get everything done. It's not even february yet, and I'm already freaking out!!! Anyhow, the tourney goal is to showcase footbag in such a way as to really hook some new markets. By markets, I mean sponsors that might come back again and again, as well as new players that can help the sport grow. To accomplish this, I need players. Players big and small, skilled as well as beginners etc.. As I am holding the tourney in conjunction with the YMCA, there will be people aplenty to sit awestruck at some of the athleticism I hope will be abound. Hopefully our friendly circuit can get these people involved!! More specific information will be coming soon, but in the meantime I could use a little help. First, if you all could forward this message to any and all that may be interested, you're saving me a ton of time. Secondly, anyone that's relatively near to Phillly, if you feel like coming to shred a little as well as help with some planning, I've got a great indoor shred spot at my place. Finally, I need the Eric's, and Peter's, and Manu's (sorry to leave out all those that deserve mention..I'm just typing off the top of my head) etc...to try their hardest to make an appearance if at all possible. Keep the east coast alive! Also, please feel free to call me with any suggestions or questions.
