Things are quite busy here in Chicago, as we prepare for the upcoming World Footbag Championships, July 12-18, 1999. Meetings are held, committees are filled, and volunteers are needed! There are several reasons behind this message: 1. I want to introduce myself, Cory Current, and my partner Scot Hansen, as the official Directors for the event this summer. Many of you may not know who we are, so here's some brief info. Scot has been kicking since around '93, and started the Alpha Schwa Omega Footbag Club at the College of DuPage in the Western Suburbs of Chicago. He directed the first 4/20 Fest back in '96, and has been a big help for that event ever since. He also started the Kickers Quarterly Footbagazine, and is now my co-director for the World Championships. He will head up the Promotions and Sponsorship committees, and many others as well. I started kicking in fall of '96, and started the Ground Phlor Digs footbag club with Jason Phillips in Aurora, IL. I've been dedicated to this sport since my first days of skooling freestyle, and am currently honing my net skills. I write articles and take pictures for Kickers Quarterly, and will be the Production Director for Worlds. Together, Scot and I will be responsible for making sure that things run smoothly and productively, while Steve Goldberg (IFAB Worlds Chairman) and Scott Davidson (local IFAB representative) look over our shoulders leading up to and during the big event. Both Steve and Scott are involved in many aspects of the planning of this event. Steve will likely be the freestyle director, while Scott focusses on a lot of the (thankless) behind-the-scenes work. 2. There is now an official sponsor travel agency. We urge you to call them and book your plane tickets through them, as they are sponsoring this event. Please call: OFFICIAL WORLD CHAMPIONSHIPS TRAVEL AGENCY: W.L.M. World Travel Ltd. 1 (800) 545-8687 (No overseas calls to this #, sorry) 1 (630) 990-2727 (Overseas call this #, thanks) Make sure you mention you're with the Footbag World Championships to get the best rate. Call them now to start planning your trip. 3. Finally, if anyone would like to volunteer for anything at all, we would greatly appreciate it. This is a big thing for us, and we have many tasks and chores during the week of the event that need filled. So, if you could even just volunteer yourself for a day or two, it would be of immense help to us. Please mail any thoughts, comments, or questions to: worlds@footbag.org Also, check out the Worlds website at: http://www.footbag.org/worlds99/ Information such as a detailed schedule, entry forms, lodging details, and directions will be on the website (and announced here) as soon as they are available. Watch What's New on Footbag WorldWide for periodic updates. We look forward to seeing the whole world of footbag players in Chicago this year for the World Footbag Championships. We are confident that this will be the best "Worlds" ever!
