We just had a great weekend. We had great player packs consisting of a tournament Tshirt, Vans cassette, stickers, Funtastik coupon, Vans posters, choice of Vans CD, Vans hat or Rainbow Imports hat. There was fun at the hotel...swimming, hot tub, mini golf & shuffle board. The weather report on Thurs said a great weekend. The weather report on Fri said 70% chance of rain all weekend and kept getting worse until that night it was 100% rain...hurricane Dennis was on the move towards us. People coming in from all over said it was just pouring until they got near Harrisburg. We had 48 competitors and no rain on Sat. We had two slight, very short rain showers on Sunday. Then around 5 pm it poured. Pro freestyle was completed in a conference room with food at the host Harrisburg East Holiday Inn. Freestyle jams and chess matches continued till midnight. Monday there was no rain until the last freestyle doubles demonstration (Steve Goldberg said he wasn't ready before the rain, so he & Ryan got to throw water at each other with their shoes after the short downpour). The competition in net was great and the freestyle routines were super. There were even spectators out early Mon AM looking for the footbag golf competition. Speaking of golf, all the iron man competitiors need to practice their golf shots until next year. The golf shot was the demise of most of the iron man competitors. Then you have Greg Nelson who snags the win by banking his golf shot in off Peter Irish's arm. All's fair in love and iron man. We then had the awards ceremony with tons of prizes and plenty of cash. The pros even got prizes in addition to the $. About 30 of us took off for dinner at the brewery when the rain came. It poured for hours eventually flooding the streets of Harrisburg from 3 to 5 feet deep. The tournament results are as follows. A special thanks to our sponsors, Vans, Funtastik, Salomon Inline skates, Rainbow Imports, Special Blend, Four Square, Burton Snowboards, Forum Snowboards, Sims Snowboards, Gratis, Oakley, Sipa Sipa, Etnies & Harrisburg East Holiday Inn. Prospect, IL... a suburb of Chicago. The typical time of the year for this event is the 2nd week of June, but due to World Championships in Chicago this year, we postponed '99 regionals until September. Be prepared for next years regionals to take place in early June with plenty of advance warning. Be aware that Chicago is also hosting the new event: "US Open Footbag Freestyle Championships" in the spring of 2000 which is a major freestyle-only prize money event that will hopefully be held at our world famous Navy Pier. On yet another note, footbag freestyle classes will be held on Sundays from 1-4 at RecPlexx all winter long starting October 5th and continuing weekly (sans holidays) through April... email me for more info on any of the above items. Events include all aspects of competitive footbag, mens and womens categories... novice, intermediate and professional divisions. Singles and doubles footbag net, singles and doubles footbag freestyle, timed consecutives and plenty of footbag golf. The focus of this years Midwest Regional Championships will be to enlighten the area youth to the benefits of the sport of footbag, and to bring up a new crop of players. Prize money will be paid in all net and freestyle pro events. Prizes and certificates for all novice and intermediate entrants. UPN's "Up 'n Running", a nationally syndicated morning show aimed at children will be filming for four hours during the event, probably Saturday afternoon. For entry fees, directions and further information, check out: http://www.footbag.org/events Directions: From downtown Chicago: Take 90 west past O'Hare to Elmhurst Road north. Continue north to Northwest Highway, turn left and go 1 mile to three blocks past Central road and turn right, park is on your left. As far as events this will be a net and golf tournament. We may run everything doubles; doubles golf, mixed doubles net, doubles net, and possibly Ruler of the Court. We are undecided at this point. This will be a very FUN event and we will play hard. We plan to keep entry fees minimal $5-10/person. Sorry for the delay in announcing a date. Dennis and I have had family trips and plans change a few times for Sept and Oct which complicated things. We can arrange floor space if you let us know in advance. There are affordable motels and hotels nearby also. Hope you can make it. Please drop me a line if you are thinking of coming. Thanks, Becca
