Well, we've learned from that mistake, and now we're "The Sport of the New Millennium". :-) Anyway, I'm writing for two reasons: (1) to get you to join footbag.org if you haven't already (2) to tell you why (1) Please join footbag.org now if you haven't already. Just being a member of announce@footbag.org is *not enough*. Register yourself with footbag.org so that you are truly a member of the online footbag community (absolutely free of charge). We have almost 800 members on this e-mail list, but only about 300 of you have signed up for your accounts. There are, however, currently almost 800 members on the website. If only 200 of you tried-and-true members of our community sign up for an account this week, we'll reach our target of *1000* members on the website by the end of the year. So, please join now! http://www.footbag.org/ and click the prominent "Join Footbag WorldWide" link! (2) The new footbag.org offers a new set of services for members of the footbag community. Among other things, you can create an e-mail alias for yourself @footbag.org and maintain your own contact information online so that other players can find you (and so you can find other players). Except for club listings, personal profiles are *only* searchable by other members and IFC-sanctioned tournament directors. Also, the IFC and WFA are both relying on the footbag.org system to provide a repository for tournament results for use in a variety of ways. IFC- and WFA-sanctioned tournaments will be participating in the new data collection process that will make it possible for the first time ever for players to get information about their performance throughout the year, and tournament directors for sanctioned tournaments will be able to get statistics about players to help them with the seeding process. IF YOU DON'T JOIN FOOTBAG.ORG, YOU WILL NOT BE ABLE TO TAKE ADVANTAGE OF THIS NEW SERVICE IN 2000. If that's not enough, there's more. Just go check it out. http://www.footbag.org/ and click on "Join Footbag WorldWide". Steve P.S. Footbag.org is an independent website, built by Yours Truly with help from many others. It is owned by the World-Wide Footbag Foundation, Inc., a non-profit organization dedicated to spreading information about footbag around the world, as well as supporting and encouraging footbag competitions. The IFC is a separate body, comprised of players and non-players, to oversee the development of the sport internationally as well. The IFC publishes the official rules of the sport, sanctions tournaments, and is responsible for the World Championships as it moves from location to location. The WFA is a players' association, and is dedicated to promoting the sport of footbag as an athletic, healthy sport, and does countless demonstrations at a grass-roots level throughout the United States. The WFA also helps promote the sport internationally and provides a central point of contact for the general public and the media. The WFA is an official sanctioning agent for the IFC. In 1997 we hosted the Footbag World Championships and at the time I created two animations in honor of the championships. They consist of my Aardvark playing Footbag Net and Footbag Freestyle in fully rendered 3-D animations. I've been selling these animations as Windows screen savers since then. My web site has offered the demo versions of these as small animations. In the spirit of the Holidays I'm offering the full versions of my Footbag screens savers as free downloads. You can download the Footbag Net and/or the Footbag Freestyle screen savers at my web site: http://www.oregoncoast.com/aardvark. Now these aren't the puny demo versions that have been on our site for the last few years. These are the full 640 x 480 versions. Enjoy and Happy Holidays!
