The Southern California Footbag Championships is happening this weekend in Hermosa Beach, CA. If you're coming early and want to get in a pre-tournament kick, give me a call or drop me a line here. My phone number is: (310) 318-1988. You can also page Eric @ (310) 879-2615. The plan would be to play at the tournament site. Also, for a Friday night hangout, there's always Hennesey's Bar and Grill, located right at the Hermosa Pier. That's right next to the Sea Sprite hotel (and youth hostel too). There's tons of other great bars and restaurants in downtown Hermosa Beach, in our newly opened plaza. It's a great place to kick, too. If you want live music with that footbag thing going, local kicker Greg Grandy will be playing with his band at The Pitcher House, 9PM - 2PM, located at 2nd St. and Hermosa Ave. That's about 1/4 mile South of the pier. Come and check it out. Lookin' forward to seeing some of you soon, Rex From owner-footbag@eniac.yak.net Fri Apr 3 17:07:35 1998 Received: (from majordom@localhost) (fnord) by eniac.yak.net (8.7.5/8.6.9) id RAA15339 for footbag-outgoing; Fri, 3 Apr 1998 17:06:43 GMT Received: from footbag@pp.kolumbus.fi () via =-=-=-=-=-= for footbag@majordomo.footbag.org (13495) Received: from Market.NET (Market.NET [140.174.206.2]) (fnord) by eniac.yak.net (8.7.5/8.6.9) with ESMTP id IAA13493 for ; Fri, 3 Apr 1998 08:42:27 GMT Received: from nina.kolumbus.fi (pp.kolumbus.fi [193.229.0.196]) by Market.NET (8.8.7/8.8.5) with ESMTP id AAA13661 for ; Fri, 3 Apr 1998 00:42:44 -0800 Received: from footbag.pp.kolumbus.fi (hki-dk5260-6-114.kolumbus.fi [193.229.113.114]) by nina.kolumbus.fi (8.8.3/8.7.3) with SMTP id LAA23172 for ; Fri, 3 Apr 1998 11:41:06 +0300 (EET DST) Message-ID: <3524A0DC.5363@pp.kolumbus.fi> Date: Fri, 03 Apr 1998 11:42:04 +0300 From: Justin Sexton Reply-To: footbag@kolumbus.fi Organization: Kolumbus X-Mailer: Mozilla 3.0C-KBUS (Win95; I) MIME-Version: 1.0 To: footbag@footbag.org Subject: [footbag] Overall points? I was just wondering if there is anybody on the list who could tell me and/or to the list how the overall scoring is counted for this year's worlds? Also I wanted to check for the planned tournaments in U.S. for the time between Worlds and the Funtastik Classic (i.e., July 20 - September 5), because my partner Jesse and I will be spending that time in U.S. The only one I have found out so far is the Vancouver Open tournament (22nd-23rd of August). Please let me know if you have any planned shreds or net sessions in your area too. Also I wanted to ask if there are any Europeans on the list? We are planning on having the Finnish Open Footbag Championships in late September in Helsinki -- what do you think? November '97 there were only Finnish players, we had 26 competitors and the tournament was awesome. Now that it is "Open", we invite anybody how is able to come. We would try to treat you as well as the Conover's family treated us at Worlds '97, but I think it isn't possible... As far as net goes, I know many of players including myself wear Nike Air Howl Cross Trainers or Nike Ndstrukt. As far as I know Nike hasn't made those for the past year or two. I know a few others have recommended the Saucony Grid Jazz. But I think it's just a matter of preference. I look for flat insides and flat outsides with descent tread. I wanted to inform everybody, especially those few in high school, that I am trying very hard to start a small interscholastic footbag league. I have written/ composed a packet for any schools interested in joining of how to start a club, suggestions on how to run it, and extra initiatives to keep a good cause in the club. The league of clubs will have tournaments next year in a popular high school game called attack, or 1-2 kill or Dicks (not what you may think), in consecutive, in freestyle(hopefully), and other games. I wanted to ask people for suggestions in organizing other clubs, and my own club, and if any high schoolers out there want to start a club, remembering that NO school has SUPERB skills, and that once a once-a-week club is started, that all the kids will get better, please contact me. Once you join this "league," you will recieve the packet with rules, a move list, a move list with explanation, the how-to packet, and a newsletter with any updated information about the league. So far, Byram Hills, Tappan Zee, and Harrison High School will all HOPEFULLY have clubs. ALL COMMENTS, QUESTIONS, and SUGGESTIONS will be greatly appreciated. Thanks a lot!!! Keep the Peace, Form a Club, and I'll see ya later, ---------Dan--------- Daniel Guarda 110 Barnard Rd New Rochelle, NY 10801-1304 (914) 235-3005 ______________________________________________________ Get Your Private, Free Email at http://www.hotmail.com From owner-footbag@eniac.yak.net Sun Apr 19 17:32:23 1998 Received: (from majordom@localhost) (fnord) by eniac.yak.net (8.7.5/8.6.9) id RAA31884 for footbag-outgoing; Sun, 19 Apr 1998 17:30:50 GMT Received: from kicking@ix.netcom.com () via =-=-=-=-=-= for footbag@majordomo.footbag.org (29774) Received: from Market.NET (Market.NET [140.174.206.2]) (fnord) by eniac.yak.net (8.7.5/8.6.9) with ESMTP id QAA29772 for ; Sun, 19 Apr 1998 16:42:47 GMT Received: from dfw-ix12.ix.netcom.com (dfw-ix12.ix.netcom.com [206.214.98.12]) by Market.NET (8.8.7/8.8.5) with ESMTP id JAA18201 for ; Sun, 19 Apr 1998 09:43:27 -0700 Received: (from smap@localhost) by dfw-ix12.ix.netcom.com (8.8.4/8.8.4) id LAA05675 for ; Sun, 19 Apr 1998 11:43:15 -0500 (CDT) Date: Sun, 19 Apr 1998 11:43:15 -0500 (CDT) Message-Id: <199804191643.LAA05675@dfw-ix12.ix.netcom.com> Received: from prt-or3-44.ix.netcom.com(207.220.32.236) by dfw-ix12.ix.netcom.com via smap (V1.3) id rma005645; Sun Apr 19 11:42:57 1998 From: kicking@ix.netcom.com (D&T George) Subject: [footbag] Congratulaions Constance!!!!! I just wanted to make an unsolicited review of the "Kick the Habit" CD-ROM produced by the Canadian Footbag Alliance (CFA). First, I want to make it clear that I have no affiliation with CFA and I had nothing to do with the development of this product. I am not a "gamer". Meaning that I never use my computer for games of any kind, just for work. So my first impression of the CD that was sitting on my desk was "when am I ever gonna try this out", I mean, I have to activate Quicktime and restart and everything. I thought, "what a hassle." Needless to say, I have tried it out. My excitement level arose when I got to the top level screen and saw the professional presentation (and the obvious amount of work that went into it). I was soon addicted, and had to test out all the areas of the CD-ROM. There are sections devoted to every aspect of the sport of footbag, to sewing footbags (they even supply a sewing kit, complete with everything you need to make your own footbag). There is a copy of the official IFAB rules of the sports of footbag. And some really cool quicktime panaramas of the Kitsalano (sp?) beach that is frequented by players in Vancouver, BC. There are little hidden "easter eggs" in the panarama's that jump you to different sections of the tutorial. They made QT movies with audio narratives that are fun to watch and educational about the sport. Hands down, they have my support! This is a great footbag product! I have shown it around to others with Mac's and they love it! Even better, it is fully Mac AND Windoze compatible so anyone with a computer from the 90's can enjoy it. Side note: Way back at worlds in Portland ('97) I had expressed interest to Scott Milne about the CD and he promised to send me one. So after I got it, I sent him the money for it. But then they sent me *another* one. I have given that one to the Kickers Quarterly Footbagazine so they can do a full review of the product (and they will be passing it around to others with computers, so they can try it out). So, if your are a novice, intermediate or seasoned veteran, and you haven't gotten a copy of it yet, I highly recommend it! Makes a great gift too! Content-Type: text/plain; charset=us-ascii Content-Transfer-Encoding: 7bit Sender: owner-footbag@footbag.org I wanted to make one more announcement about the upcoming 1998 Southern Regional Footbag Championships in Dallas THIS WEEKEND. Here is how things stand. Again, this is a PRIZE MONEY EVENT. We have close to $2000 prize money. Events include net (singles, doubles, mixed doubles, intermediate, women's and open), freestyle (novice, intermediate and open), timed consecs, and last, but certainly not least, golf. The event will be held in conjunction with the Wildflower Arts and Music Festival. The annual Wildflower Festival brings over 45,000 people together to hear live music, see lots of wildflowers (hence the name), and watch exhibitions of extreme sporting events. I believe they are even setting up carnival rides as I type this. Entry to the festival is free for footbag competitors... just show two footbags at the gate. Our location is going to be right at the entrance of the festival. We have a massive professionally manicured lawn for net, and concrete for freestyle. Entry fees - FREE for world title holders in either net or freestyle. FREE for BAP members $20 for intermediate $20 +$5 per event for open $1 for novice (this is for a lifetime WFA membership) Several top players are making their way in. They include: Rick Reese, Daryl Genz, Tuan Vu, Steve Goldberg, Peter Shunny, Tina Lewis, Jeremy Keller, James Roberts, Kyle and Eli (the Austin guys), and many more. Limited floor space is still available if you ask quickly and don't mind being crowded. Otherwise, host hotels are within walking distance of the event (5 min walk). For more information, look at our web page http://www.dallasfootbag.org/southern.html or call me. My name is Derric Scalf (972)818-6992. I will post any changes here, and will send them out to the schools by mail.(Unless the people who are thankfully reviewing the material want it by mail as well.) 3) I wanted to find a good way, ANY way to raise money for the club next year. I would like to see if we could try net, but first I would like to get a few clubs for the club to share, some videos, etc. All the response to my idea has been really cool, and has motivated me to continue, despite time hassles. What are your feelings about footbag golf? 3. When you show new people how to play footbag golf do they like it? 4. Where does footbag golf belong? Players are being asked their opinion favoring either the rule as it stands, or the addition of a clause 303.08Di:If the player, in a single motion, strikes the bag prior or simultaneous to said touch, there is no foul.(above the net). In effect, righteous kicks taking precedence over the "contact" foul. Josh Bowen and Vince Bradley have agreed to take the referendum at the Heartland Regional and East Coast Championships. Thanks to them, and to Eric Burgess, who agreed to take the referendum at the Southern Regionals, although I couldn't get organized in time. There is space provided in the materials for a position page supporting the rule as it stands. It remains blank until someone steps up: a fair hearing to both sides. Buzz me if you'd like to volunteer for that. I am including on the sign up sheet some of the big names in favor of either side. Those of you who missed it should not make the same mistake next year. It was the Dallas clubs first event and they were incredible hosts. Not to mention, they managed to get 19 people up to play Golf at 7 a.m., which is a grand accomplishment. Thank you DALLAS!
