It didn't resemble the one in Footbag World magazine, and the package say "Night Hack" with pictures of those ever so popular aliens on it. WFA assured me that it was the glowmaster and that they merely changed the name of it in the magazine to avoid legal disagreements with Hacky Sack. Hrm. I knew that it wouldn't be a bag I could stall anywhere (like the twisted), but this thing is difficult to even kick! Any suggestions would help my partner and i as we work on a routine for a midwest tourney that we will go to this summer ie... midwest regionals. rye From owner-freestyle@eniac.yak.net Wed Feb 12 19:38:41 1997 Received: (from majordom@localhost) (fnord) by eniac.yak.net (8.7.5/8.6.9) id TAA32709 for freestyle-outgoing; Wed, 12 Feb 1997 19:38:40 GMT Received: (from bin@localhost) (fnord) by eniac.yak.net (8.7.5/8.6.9) id TAA32705 for freestyle@eniac.yak.net; Wed, 12 Feb 1997 19:38:39 GMT Received: from brat@footbag.org () via =-=-=-=-=-= for freestyle@majordomo.footbag.org (32702) Received: from Market.NET (Market.NET [140.174.206.2]) (fnord) by eniac.yak.net (8.7.5/8.6.9) with ESMTP id TAA32700 for ; Wed, 12 Feb 1997 19:38:39 GMT Received: from research.apple.com (research.apple.com [17.255.4.30]) by Market.NET (8.7.6/8.7.3) with ESMTP id LAA31658 for ; Wed, 12 Feb 1997 11:38:42 -0800 Received: from [17.255.9.137] (microbrat.research.apple.com [17.255.9.137]) by research.apple.com (8.7.2/8.6.12) with ESMTP id LAA15156 for ; Wed, 12 Feb 1997 11:31:15 -0800 (PST) X-Sender: (Unverified) Message-Id: In-Reply-To: References: <1.5.4.32.19970207233929.0067e2bc@mail.advtel.net> Mime-Version: 1.0 Content-Type: text/plain; charset="us-ascii" Date: Wed, 12 Feb 1997 11:38:32 -0800 To: freestyle@footbag.org From: Steve Goldberg Subject: Re: [freestyle] doubles? This is the _current_ definition, Dennis. Remember this is not perfect, as it ALMOST allows infinity to be in the same category. I say almost, keeping the double hip shift in mind. _________ PARADOX: A dexterity modifying element awarded a body add for the unique double hip twist required to execute the move. While it is awarded an add in the body category, the folowing definition allows it to be a clearly definable composition element. A paradox must: 1) be set from a cross body; 2) the setting foot must perform a dexterity before another spinning element is performed; 3) the final contact must be made with the non-setting foot, OR must be made cross-body with the setting foot. This past weekend was the heart of freestyle footbag tournement, which I think was a huge success. When I first got to Kenny and Kendalls house I was amazed at how hospitable they were to the competitors. They had mattresses laid out in the school house for us to sleep on and all the food was provided. Geting around was no problem either. The competition was great. They had a cool judging system that I think took some pressure off the players, and give them more time to shread. I learned alot this weekend, more than I ever had at any other tournement. I was schooled by a a few BAP members, and I learned alot just by watching their magic. I liked kicking with Kenny the first night I was there, and having Paul Munger critiqing my moves. Night Time was cool too. The food was good and so was the beer. Alot of the intermediates, including myself, were schooling until late at night, some of us not stoping until midnight. We also watched ourselves in the news saturday and sunday night in what kenny said was top of the line news coverage. I cant wait until world's comes around. Portland is alot more kicker oriented than here in southern california. I saw so many cool footbags in different shops around town. In california you will be lucky to find a guatamalan in a random shop besides a sporting goods store. Porltland had stores that were selling all kinds of footbags. One in paticular had a variety of footbags including flying clippers, dirtbags, coles, twisteds, alphas, and ultimas. I thought the WFA was the only place with this kind of a selection. Very cool. With complete interview/shreds with Kenny and Tricia and people in the background. She even saw a person in the background who looked like KIC, but thin... and thought perhaps, maybe she was a little early... but no. We would have seen some kind of announcement. So great job on the media coverage, we don't know which station it was, but it must have been national! We can't wait to hear about Kendall, we've got a pool going on when she will give birth. Right, pixie drifter is an insane move. has anyone seen it done? Noah gave it a few tries at Funtastik last year and was pretty close, but he hadn't skooled it recently... It could be a variation on 'toe drifter'; same foot setting. That's what I call it. Just to clarify (since Josh went off on a tangent :-) this is a DRIFTER. It doesn't matter if you set drifter from toe or clipper -- it's still a drifter. But yes, you can think of it as pixie clipper delay if you want; but the accepted definition is DRIFTER. The reason for this change in engagement is the lack of inspiring messages lately ... (read first, get offended later) Ofcourse people should thank the organizers of the heart of freestyle tournament, and it is always a pleasure to read that the new hack-man is out, and sometimes, on a rainy tuesday morning, I read the paradoxness, but the stuff that really makes my mind work, the stuff that really makes me jump out of my seat and start air-shreddin (without ball) them, is the new and outthere moves some people can do and I would like to do. I mean, I have been slowmo'in this raw shred video over and over again, I even know the background moves that are being done, but there must be new moves that freestylers do and perhaps are willing to talk. Ofcourse I could start posting my new and improved moves, but they could hardly be described as outthere, at times maybe elegant, and allways sweaty offcourse, but I don't think people would be airshreddin' to them, so I'll just leave that alone. Anyway, a lot of words to say: those triple-double gyro guys/girls must be out there somewhere, who can bring them here ? robin footbag amsterdam From owner-freestyle@eniac.yak.net Thu Feb 27 01:08:16 1997 Received: (from majordom@localhost) (fnord) by eniac.yak.net (8.7.5/8.6.9) id BAA05287 for freestyle-outgoing; Thu, 27 Feb 1997 01:08:13 GMT Received: (from bin@localhost) (fnord) by eniac.yak.net (8.7.5/8.6.9) id BAA05283 for freestyle@eniac.yak.net; Thu, 27 Feb 1997 01:08:12 GMT Received: from bigfoot@creighton.edu () via =-=-=-=-=-= for freestyle@majordomo.footbag.org (5280) Received: from Market.NET (Market.NET [140.174.206.2]) (fnord) by eniac.yak.net (8.7.5/8.6.9) with ESMTP id BAA05278 for ; Thu, 27 Feb 1997 01:08:11 GMT Received: from mailjay.creighton.edu (mailjay.creighton.edu [147.134.2.15]) by Market.NET (8.7.6/8.7.3) with SMTP id RAA12646 for ; Wed, 26 Feb 1997 17:08:14 -0800 Received: from bluejay.creighton.edu by mailjay.creighton.edu with SMTP (1.38.193.5/16.2) id AA23401; Wed, 26 Feb 1997 19:08:13 -0600 Date: Wed, 26 Feb 1997 19:08:13 -0600 (CST) From: Something Odd To: freestyle@footbag.org Subject: [freestyle] Move question In-Reply-To: <199702262350.XAA04891@eniac.yak.net.taz> Message-Id: Mime-Version: 1.0 Content-Type: TEXT/PLAIN; charset=US-ASCII Sender: owner-freestyle@footbag.org I can't remember where I saw this done, but it looks a lot smoother than a normal butterfly stall: Instead of catching the bag after your plant leg goes over it, the bag is "scooped" under the plant leg into a clipper stall. We have never settled it. I don't care, but I have a tendancy to call it a pincher if for nothing but habit. Anyway... >Head stall is one add - delay ? >chest? >shoulders? >neck? >what else? Watch out in tournament situations. Upper body delays are lame, and hence, any add counter with honor will give you only one add, and only ONCE, for upper body moves. i.e. If you do Forhead to temple to temple to top of head, how many adds do you get, how many contacts, and where do the adds come from? Yes upper body falls into the "unusual" catagory. I have personally done this (I thought they were 2 adds each, delay and unusual) and was told by the Add counter that I was wrong, it was 4 contacts and a whopping 1:1 ratio. I feel we need a limit on the number of upper body moves you can do and still call them "unusual". I think it should be 1. The Comp Card judges need some guidance on this subject, what is the concensus here? Comp needs to be consistant with Add counting, so I say lets fight this one out and establish a norm that we can work from. Footbag, not "Upper-body" Bag! See ya! Scott. I think it should be 1. The Comp Card judges Cool - something we might almost try to work up into a controversy! Here's my take: There are 5 unique upper body "surfaces" - head, back, chest, and each arm. You only get an Unusual add for each, but can combine those contacts with other add elements for additional unique moves (a neck catch [1 add] and a pixie set neck catch [2 adds] are each unique moves). And yes, that means all that eye-socket juggling and side of head and top of head stuff gets one add for each contact, but only gets counted as one unique move in the unusual surface category. So simple. Any questions?
