To: sewing@footbag.org MIME-Version: 1.0 Content-Type: text/plain; charset="us-ascii" Content-Transfer-Encoding: 7bit X-Mailer: Windows AOL sub 54 Sender: owner-sewing@footbag.org Hello everyone. My name is Shawn. I have been making footbags for about a year now. Though I am not a real great footbagger, I have played almost all of my life. Here is a little bit about my experience with making footbags. I use ultra suede lite. I love the feel and the workability of the material. When I fill a sack I use poly pellets or sand. (For those of you who wonder where you can buy poly pellets, I will let out my little secret. WalMart. Look in the craft section. It is $2 for a huge bag. For sand go to a pet store. They sell sand for lizards.) I have made the patterns posted on Eric Tiffanys page. I also have torn apart a few pags for their patterns also. I make custom sacks for friends and associates who want one. I am thinking of starting to look a little more seriously into making a part time business out of my bags. For anyone just begginning I would suggest the Ya-mak-a bag. It is a make your own sack kit. It tells all of the secrets to the art of sewing a bag. It also includes the best way to close a bag that I have ever used. You sew the last seam really loose. Open the hole and turn the bag inside out. Then just pull the thread like you would if you were tying your shoes. It works far better than the blind stitch in my eyes. If anyone wants to have a sewing conversation, just e-mail me and I will gladly answer any questions. (Or maybe have some of my own.)
