Marc Zelov, 8th grade math teacher at Amphi Middle School. I am also running a footbag club at the school. Check this site for our club info: http://footbag.org/clublist/amphi I have been kicking the footbag around for about 1 year and have become quite adept at the basic kicks and just keeping the bag off the ground. My skills at freestyle tricks are pretty lacking, but improving. I recently sewed my first 12-panel footbag using the pentagon pattern off of the worldwide web site. I sewed two. one came out the perfect size. One came out oversized. I used the 1-inch scale accurately for the one that came out oversized. I am not sure why this happened, it was accidental. I am "teaching" a footbag class to a group of 35 6th-8th grade students. Most of this class is spent simply kicking in groups. I am using a role-model approach, simply trying to relate to students on a different level than the daily math routine. Things are going well with the class but I could use some ideas for making it less mundane so that the kids don't get bored. There is no budget, so sewing is not an option for me with this large group. I am also running the AFC footbag club which consists of about 4-5 enthusiastic 8th graders. It is with this group that I am attempting the sewing. They are using the same 12 panel design on our first bags. I got some facile from my brother, and we are using quartered sinew and glovers needles. We are pretty baffled by the final knot, please send technique on hiding that last knot. Also, I am new to this computer technology, and I don't really understand the lingo on the download patterns faq page. the postcript info won't show up. Gotta run, looking forward to some email responses. I sewed two bags today and both of them turned out marble size (exageration). I am sewing as close to the edge of the panels as possible to try to make them bigger. Does this happen to anyone else? Should I just make the pattern bigger? Matt Avery
